Metadata not being saved

Anyone experienced metadata not being saved with the Admin Tool?

 

I am trying to add new Tables and when I click save and then either reload metadata or close and open the Admin Tool my new metadata is gone.

 

I have looked at the metadata.xml file and some of the new data has been saved, but does not show up in the Admin tree.  I tried adding new data with a XML text editor and it worked a few times (the new Tables showed up) but one time it made a Class not accessible (even thought the new Table showed up) and I don't know where the error was.  I replaced the metadata.xml with a copy I had made and got back to where I was but am looking for some suggestions going forward.

 

What does the metadata.xml- file do vs the metadata.xml?

On the "Metadata" menu item, make sure "strict" is not selected and try again.

 

What does the metadata.xml- file do vs the metadata.xml?

That's a backup of the prior version of the file.
