Hello all!

I am brand new to teaching philosophy and teaching at a VCE level, so I'm feeling somewhat out of my depth. I'm also the only current Philo teacher at my school, so I miss having a team for discussion like I do in my other subject areas.

Question: would anyone have any resources they would be prepared to share with me for Aristotle and/or Plato? My students are wanting more extended response and essay questions for the school break and I'm struggling to find any resources in my school drive that will not be required in other situations. Extended Response stimuli in particular there seems to be a real shortage of extra content for support.

I am prepared to pay you or provide endless coffee vouchers etc. I'm also happy to share any resources you might also need/want for other units that you might find useful. I understand that asking for resources is potentially a little rude, but I hope the knowledge that:
a) I've only been teaching this subject since the start of term 2 (9 weeks, woo!), and
b) my philosophy degree was literally achieved before my current year 12 students were born might be enough info to soften any tough hearts out there.

Yours in gratitude,

Fiona

Hi Fiona,

VAPS has a number of VCE resources available if you have a VAPS membership, including readings, powerpoints, essay questions, additional secondary texts, exam materials.

We also host 2 VCE Forums each year. One for unit 3 (which has already passed but you can purchase the recording from us). And another for unit 4 that is coming up at the beginning of Term 3. Your students can attend and hear from academic philosophers at various Melbourne universities specific to the Unit 4 material. They'll also have the opportunity to ask questions.

VCE Unit 3 Forum recording - $150

VCE Unit 4 Forum attendance & recording - $150

VAPS membership (to access resources on our website) - $80 for you individually or $250 for your school.

Let me know if any of these interest you.

If you need time to organise your school to pay for a membership but you want immediate access, I'm happy to give you access to the resources that come with a membership in advance, anticipating a membership payment later on.

We also have a VCE Subcommittee that organise VCE network meetings periodically to engage in the collaborative discussion that you don't get as the only teacher in a school. Peter Soutar is currently the Chair of this Subcommittee. There may be a network meeting at some point in Term 3.

Thanks,
Ben
