This is Dirk Lynch- President of The University of Mary Washington’s
Ecology Club and I have some recruitment news to share! We have about
50 people on a tentative list and are working to get 100. Our
relatively small environmental club is working hard in officers
meetings to set up how our club meetings will run smoothly to get all
the news out about environmental happenings and volunteer
opportunities without running way over reasonable time limits and
while still maintaining a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. We are
going about this by using timed stations (each with a specific theme
EX: Power Shift) in the meeting to allow people to pick where they
want to go. I will be leading our Power Shift station and I plan to
run everybody down on the conference in this manner:

This conference is going to be about 1000 college students rallying,
learning, teaching, communicating, organizing and attempting to
amplify our concerned voices about climate change by coming together.
Like immigrants coming into this country rally for immigration reform
and like blacks rally for civil rights, we as young people feel that
the stance we take on this issue is one which our demographic will
either be advanced or severely hindered by in the future. It will be a
conference based on the notion that we as young people have a vested
interest in the health of this planet and are willing to fight for it.

I always get people asking “what is Power Shift?”- And that’s about
what I’ve refined my answer down to.

I will then ask for people’s commitment to talk to 2 or 3 people a
week until Power Shift about it; for them to ask their friend to just
google power shift and to think about it give their friend my email
and tell them to email me questions. Also we will need professors to
go with us (some rule by the clubs dept.)and van certified people to
drive the university vans to Tech (all one hundred of us).

Wish us luck! Peace and Clean Energy,
Dirk Lynch
