Youth Media DNA Report: Decoding Youth as News & Information Consumers

Over time newspaper readership amongst young people has been declining. This led media experts to wonder - Are youth interested in news? How does technology affect their daily consumption? In 2006 The World Association of Newspapers enlisted D-CODE, research consultancy focused on youth, to research improved strategies for reaching and delivering news to young readers locally and globally. TakingITGlobal assisted in the hiring of Country Leaders in Columbia, Japan, Lebanon, the Philippines, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States. Country Leaders recruited youth from all of these places to confirm or challenge 5 different hypotheses regarding youth readership of newspapers.

The important report that followed will be part of assessing how youth consume news globally, and formulating strategies to engage them. Check out the finished product http://en.takingitglobal.org/resources/toolkits/view.html?ToolkitID=1101&dc=7.5,6684,en
