Vancouver Transit Campers,

Well, I am feeling very sheepish now.

For those of you who haven't taken a look at the wiki in a while, there has been some unfortunate shenanigans with that wiki service that we paid (yes, unfortunately we paid for the damn thing) for, and the Vancouver Transit Camp wiki is currently inaccessible.

It started with some spam a couple weeks ago. I contacted support about that, never heard back and didn't seem to hear any more about it from the RSS feed. That incident really should have been the red flag to start pulling up stakes on the content and to start searching for another home. Alas, we (or *I*) didn't, and now the site is replaced with a site-wide "moving data centres" message. (I could also have taken a cue from the Toronto Transit Campers, but bygones.)

Hopefully we'll be able to pull stuff off it soon when their data centre is all set up again and that this will be in the near future. In the mean time, any suggestions?  I'm guessing we will not want to keep on with stikipad even if they manage to get back up, seeing as they seem to be a shady operation all around. (see http://www.blogwithoutalibrary.net/?p=304#comments) When the event was in planning, we got some offers for other wiki services. The wiki, I imagine, will be used again for future Transit Camps.

I feel terribly responsible for not having moved on this faster, but I remain optimistic that this situation is salvageable for such a central part of our event last year.

Will keep everyone apprised,

--

re: Stickypad

Perhaps they will be back shortly; it could very well be that they are moving their data centre...perhaps with help from friends, carrying servers from one basement to another...etc. Who knows.

I don't think all is lost though; Google has a pretty good cache, though the Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) does not.
Shall we rebuild the wiki as a static 'point in time' snapshot? ie: close the wiki functionality for now and maybe setup some other venue for contributing/leaving feedback? Or not?

I could donate a Socialtext wiki for our group.  I can set it up immediately.

Happy to see traffic (on the list, that is),
Luke

During the northern voice conference, the stikipad wiki was down, so I copied most of its contents (using google's cache) into the barcamp wiki here:

The downside of using the barcamp wiki is that there's no way to just get notified when the Vancouver Transit Camp pages get updated (that I know of).
