Pacal,Yann and Bernard
You will be pleased to know that the AGM of VCRF takes place at La Baule in September
I am sure you will all wish to attend to give your support to the club by bringing your ideas and contribution to making it more dynamic.
Please advise us all on your plans.
Concerning the RV9A of Bernard it is truly a very well built RV and worthy of a Grand Champion award at any fly in including Oshkosh.
It was a pity he did not stay very long at St Brieuc (just the Saturday morning I believe) as he left before the judging took place.
Best Regards to all,
Barry RV6A F-PRVM
PS how many of you attended St Brieuc and helped the flying club as well as Louis, Alain and his wife in preparing for the fly in?
Hello Barry
Has the date of the assembly been announced somewhere?
For St-Brieuc, I have sent an e-mail to Michele explaining why I could not attend.
I also helped quite a lot with the old website (maybe you can even remember a few documents I wrote : How to use the website, About autopilots, Use of Angle of Attack), all this got lost when the row erupted between VCF and Yann.
You might also have noticed that I didn’t make any personal attack.
When I was co-webmaster of the website, Yann and I got criticized about the website not being this or that.
My little mail (pique), was only to say that maintaining a website is not that easy and now the critics of the former website are running the show, with in my opinion not much more success.
I had a few phone calls with Lucien and Michele about the way I think the website should look, my opinions were not shared at the time and I don’t think they are today.
Best regards
Pascal

Vansclubdefrance:115] Re: 2 nouveaux RV...
Yann,
You are correct there was no need to make excuses for replying in French!
However the discussion you started has much merit and I would like to make a couple of points.
First it was unfortunate the dispute that arose over the choice of web site. I realize that you and Pascal felt a certain frustration. However from my point of view it started mainly from a misunderstanding between you and the committee of VCF. Basically you wanted your web site to represent VCF and the committee of VCF wanted the web site to be under their control where you acted only as webmaster. In other words it was a question of who controlled the content. I do however think we should put this behind us and perhaps consider the future which is my second point.
My second point is, do we need a VCF, and if so what should be its objectives? About 6 years ago when Lucien was proposing the setting up of a VCF I asked him the same question. VCF has now existed for several years and it is perhaps now time for us all to consider whether or not we should continue. I realize that in France one likes to have an official association following the law of 1901 whether one has a “club de boule” or a flying club, this has always seemed the way to go. If you take a look at what happens in the USA or the UK and perhaps other countries that have a group of RV builders and pilots I don’t know of one country that has an official Vans Club similar to that in France. One of the main objectives of VCF was to meet on a yearly basis with the DGAC in Paris to discuss problems related to Vans airplanes in France. However I am not sure that any meeting between VCF and the DGAC can ever change the way the DGAC view Vans aircraft of any other homebuilt airplane for that matter. The DGAC is a government organization which basically operates to a set of predefined rules. If you look at the situation in the UK where there are probably 10 times the number of RVs that in France there is basically one Yahoo group where many people with interest in RVs, both builders and pilots participate. The same thing is true in the US where most people communicate via Vansairforce.net. In the UK the RV community organize la low key event at North Weald for RVs once a year. The rest of the time they participate at their local LAA Strut fly ins (ex PFA). In the US it is somewhat similar however the EAA chapters (local clubs) are very active and there are often fly ins for all types of airplanes not just RVs most weekend. This together with a monthly evening meeting where there is often an interesting guest speaker..
The problem we have in France is that at the local level the RSA is very disorganized or absent, with virtually no local meetings or encouragement to have new members join and participate. The number of builders and pilots of RVs in France is quite small and scattered over a large area hence making regular meetings difficult.
The second objective of VCF was to organize an annual weekend fly in and evening banquet. To arrange and organize this function takes considerable work on behalf of the person or persons who have volunteered to host the fly in. To have the honor of attending the fly in members of VCF pay an annual membership fee of 50 Euros. It should be noted that many non members of VCF and particularly from outside France mainly the UK also participate at the fly in. In fact at St Brieuc there many more foreign RVs than those from France. The question I ask is, whether it is worth a few members going to all this trouble and financial risk for very little reward or furthering the cause of Vans aircraft in France?
I tend to be of the opinion that a less formal organization similar to the UK would be much better. Perhaps a casual fly out between those builders and flyers would be just as pleasant without all the necessary hard work that is required in setting up an International style fly in. By having a simple Yahoo group to communicate like the one used by Jean Claude and his web site would be sufficient. In this way members who wished to have their own web sites could provide any building information they think fit and be linked together with other builders web sites.
It would be interesting if other people, members of VCF or not, provide their opinions on VCF or if a less formal organization should exist.
I am sorry to have written this in English but am sure you will find it less offensive that if I had tried to write it in my version of French.
Barry
