Ninaian: A Post-Rock Journey with For a Little Cruise

Ninaian is a South Korean musician who creates low-intensity post-rock with ambient and shoegaze elements. His debut EP, For a Little Cruise, was released in 2010 and features seven tracks of atmospheric and melodic soundscapes. The EP showcases Ninaian's talent for blending guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, noise and vocals into a cohesive and captivating whole.

The EP opens with "Only Moment Spent Within You", a six-minute track that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The song starts with a gentle guitar riff and a soft voice whispering "I love you" in Korean, then builds up to a crescendo of distorted guitars and drums. The track is followed by "Little Cruise", a shorter and more upbeat song that features a catchy melody and a playful keyboard. The third track, "Walking on Moon Beams", introduces Kkona as a guest vocalist who sings in English over a dreamy background of guitar and synth.

The fourth track, "The Earth Harmonics", is one of the highlights of the EP. It features Kim Nam Yoon on bass and Adam Rinaldi on noise, creating a rich and dynamic sound that contrasts with Ninaian's delicate guitar and vocals. The song has a hypnotic rhythm and a haunting chorus that repeats "I can hear the earth harmonics". The fifth track, "Get a Load of the Smell of the Dead Man", is the shortest and most experimental song on the EP. It consists of Kkona's distorted voice repeating the title over a noisy and chaotic backdrop.

The sixth track, "Sun Sun Sun", is another upbeat and catchy song that showcases Ninaian's skill for creating memorable melodies. The song has a sunny and optimistic vibe that contrasts with the darker and more introspective songs on the EP. The final track, "Wish I Were Here Without You", is a fitting conclusion to the EP. It features Kim Nam Yoon on bass and Adam Rinaldi on noise again, creating a powerful and emotional sound that matches Ninaian's heartfelt vocals. The song expresses a sense of longing and regret over a lost love, ending with the line "I wish I were here without you".

For a Little Cruise is an impressive debut from Ninaian, who demonstrates his ability to craft beautiful and engaging post-rock songs with minimal resources. The EP is a hidden gem for fans of the genre, who will appreciate Ninaian's originality and sincerity. The EP can be streamed on YouTube or downloaded from various online platforms.
