fall planting strategies

Tapping into the wisdom of this group.  

Qs:  What are people planting now and this fall?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of planting fruit/nut trees now?  

I see the likelihood of getting roots established now as a bonus but danger of a frost being potentially devastating.  Obviously rye, turnip, radish can be planted for a little while longer still.  

Any other ideas on how to get more good things moving in the soil this fall?
