First I'd like to say "Welcome!" to all of our newest members, we're so glad you're interested in Permaculture and hope that you will share what you know and bring your questions to the many excellent minds in this group. As we grow, I want to gently remind us all of a few things:

1) The Grains Co-op is awesome, but its discussions really belong on the separate Google Group that was kindly set up by Mike for that purpose, you can find it here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/vankal-permaculture-grains-co-op  ...if you're having technical troubles getting into that group or managing your membership, please contact Mike (luckymortal) or I directly and we can help you troubleshoot.

While we welcome occasional check-ins updating us of Grain Co-op activities, I think it's currently generating too much e-mail for the folks who are not interested in participating, and by doing so it may be hurting our cause, esp. as people's attention spans get shorter by the day. As it is, 39 of the 76 (i.e., a slight majority) folks signed up for this list have chosen to receive "No E-mail" from the group, so we've either scared them off, or they read the messages on the website only, or they just joined on a whim, who knows... The Facebook page seems to have fairly low participation as well, but often with different people contributing there than here. So please be inclusive and respect others' inboxes (quality over quantity).

2) That said, once in a while someone will reply to the entire group with a simple "thank you" or a message that would've been better sent as a direct e-mail to the one person they're really replying to, (assuming it doesn't contribute any new info to the group). Sorry if this sounds fussy, but bear in mind that we all get e-mail in different ways, and some e-mail clients don't "nest" related messages together, meaning that each new reply is a brand new message that someone must open or deal with. So please be mindful when composing short, one-sentence replies that dozens of people will receive.

3) Finally, since some folks get groups of messages in "Digest" form, please be careful when replying to e-mails in a "Digest;" ideally replies would be made within the specific topic they're intended for (visible on the website here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/vankal-permaculture), so that they nest with the related conversation both on the group website and in e-mail clients which group threads together—replying to a Digest starts an entirely new conversation in the group, and moreover a conversation with no obvious title or subject.

This is nothing personal against anyone, I love you all and want people to participate as much as they can, but trying to adhere to a few "housekeeping" rules should improve the experience for all, especially those on the margins who are just dipping their toes in.

With respect,
PJ Chmiel, 3rd Shift E-Mail List Tyrant
