Hello all,
The e-mail list has been relatively quiet lately, I think a lot of the "action" and group discussion has moved to Facebook (groan, but I guess that's the era we're living in). As I'm pruning my fruit trees, I wanted to remind people that collectively, we have quite a resource in fruit tree varieties, and it's easy enough to graft new varieties onto existing trees.
So you could have a large apple tree with 20 different varieties (you could ostensibly have as many varieties as you have branches, but that would be a bit over the top). You can graft good edible pears onto those worthless, stinking Bradford (flowering) Pears that are planted everywhere as ornamentals. You can graft lots of different things onto Sorbus (Mountain Ash) or Hawthorn trees, you can of course graft any edible apple onto any crabapple, graft named varieties of Pawpaws or Persimmons onto wild seedlings, etc. Here's a link to the spreadsheet of what's been noted so far; I know there are a lot more varieties that haven't been listed yet. Right now only a handful of people have editing access, but if you want to edit just e-mail me and let me know and I'll gladly add you to the list. Enjoy!

Our Local Lawton group is having a Seed Exchange event on 4/13, maybe I could bring them to that or make other arrangements. Happy pruning!
