Hi all,

I hope this is ok to post here. I assist with managing a science career and college prep program at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Our group of 10 high school seniors will be in Michigan in mid-April to visit Michigan State and we would love to spend a day volunteering at a permaculture-focused farm. Our students have interned here at the Botanic Garden for several summers, some in horticulture and some in our research labs and studied permaculture extensively last summer. We’d love to volunteer with whatever you need assistance with, but if that doesn’t work out, we would be very interested in a tour at least. We have some $ to cover the cost of the tour. The likely date would be Thursday April 20. We would be driving back from MSU to Chicago so something in the area of Kalamazoo-ish would be great. If you are interested, please contact me at sbe...@chicagobotanic.org. Thx!, Shelly Bender

Western Michigan University has a great permaculture curriculum and farm...
.....Josh, who runs it, participates here, I'll bet he'll chime in soon.

Hi Shelly,
It's been a while, did anyone ever respond to you about your generous offer to volunteer? If not, let this e-mail be a reminder to everyone that your offer is floating out there. What kind of a permaculture site are you most interested in? There are some community gardens, a few young-ish "food forest" gardens—from scales of a backyard up to 3+ acres, then there are some working homesteads, a couple of organic orchards, a few young farms who are combining agroforestry with animals, a student residency program at WMU that Anne mentioned called The Gibbs House which is doing permaculture work, and more. Let us know if you found anything or are still looking, thanks!
