Just to update those who weren't able to attend our brainstorming session yesterday, these are some of the ideas we came up with. We are considering doing more than 1 skit. Think on these and add to them if you have good ideas not listed. Keep in mind we are to make the med students laugh so this needs to be funny to a non-science crowd.

Kelli

Jokes about us having long white coats already
Mac vs pc commercial done as md vs mstp (retracting with paper clips")
Skit with asking small children medical or mstp related question (similar to AT&T commercials)
"And" vs "or", history and physical vs. History or physical (similar to ford commercial)
Overly honest methods
Parody on taking candy away from kids videos
Mstps reading feedback about mstps from mds
Films some "flash forwards" of what we imagine vs reality of 4 yrs from now
Ridiculous olympic event that hasn't occurred yet that we can make fun of
Sharknado
Ask med students grad student questions and grad students med student question
Science olympics
Dramatic readings by terry of embarrassing excerpts from our application essays
Pi's kids telling us what to do or just highlighting our most stupid mistakes
Kids as committee members
Long discussion was had on a three stooges-esque mstps going back to clinic (several ideas- clip on ties, kazoo stethoscope, exploding reflex hammer, see gross things and pretend they aren't there, maybe do as a silent film style)
Mstp drunk history
Mstps getting drunk and doing other's presentations/posters
Actual lessons from grad school
If someone else directed the mstp (rob ford, bieber)

Friends,

Do we know what we want to do yet? Harish said it is fine for us to take up 5 min if we want to, but we need to get our ideas into a decent plan in the next week or so. When we met last, the favorite idea was to do a long three stooge-esque skit with short interrupting clips of other ideas (less than 30 seconds or so each). Still the favorite? If we do this long of a skit, we will need everyone's help.

If it's left up to me, it will be five minutes of cat videos. Probably of my cats. Let's not let that happen.

What are people thinking on this?

I'm game to help and think it would be fun to put the energy in to come up with something funny. I agree that we need the whole group to commit in order for it to 1. Actually be funny 2. Not give one person a ton of work to do.

My other thoughts are that if we want to do it, we should go ahead and pick a day/time to film and then we can plan everything else around that.  I could do next weekend-- feb 22nd/23rd...or maybe a little bit later like march 8th would be better?

Also, 5 minutes sounds a little bit long to me-- but, I'm not the local expert. Game for whatever, if you guys are all in!

I'm game. I can't do the 22nd weekend or march 8th weekend. Most other weekends I am free.

Hi everyone,

I think anything more than a minute would be too long.
I'm down for whatever, but I'll probably be out of town the weekend of March 8.

I'm here most weekends and could always use a break from the scope. Catherine, is there another weekend good for you beyond the 22/23 and the 8th? What about the 15th? I know that I running pretty close to Cadaver Ball, but that is fine if we are all free.

I could do the 15th! I have something Saturday afternoon/evening but I could either do it in the morning or on Sunday.

Others? Blair Brian Scott Laura India....you guys still game?

I think the 1-minute limit is a good idea too, Pratik.

Same as catherine - I'm busy afternoon/night of the 15th (March right?) but could do something quick in the morning or on sunday.

Yes, still in. The 15th/16th seems too close to me, maybe we could try for a couple of weeknights but keep Sunday the 16th free.

This is an appropriately cheesy/overly-hopeful vibe for our "expectations" shots (obviously without the singing): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fZHou18Cdk
We could include a shot of Matt playing the trombone, set it to the instrumental version of Green Day-Good Riddance or We Are Young, and then repeat (sing-song?) bench-to-bedside 20x.

Also, I was thinking more Charlie Chaplin for the slapstick clinic scenes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79i84xYelZI
That way we wouldn't need dialogue, could speed up the video slightly for effect, and could intersperse it with cue cards and a pun-y title. Dressing up like Charlie Chaplin optional.

In the meantime we can nail down a script/scenes/props needed via googledocs:

I’m also still in. I agree with Laura that the 16th seems late and that weeknights might be better.

Sounds good to me. Should we go ahead and block off a couple of nights to work on it? Are we thinking the weeks of 3/3 and 3/10?

Hey guys,

Probably time to revisit our cadaver ball skit ideas especially if we want to start shooting soon. Should we meet to put the scripts together one evening next week? How is Monday for everyone?

Works for me too. Shall we rent out a conference room in MRB III, Laura? BYOB?

Okay, lets meet at 6:30. Sounds good India- can you reserve the room?

So that we can keep the meeting short: before Monday night, try to add segments from your application essays to the spreadsheet or else send entire copies to me or the group to comb through. One or two sentences will probably be best but we may be able to keep the audience's attention for a particularly good paragraph.

alright y'all...turns out my personal statement was incredibly boring (glad they let me in anyway...), but I tried my hardest to pick out the most embarrassing, cheesy lines of inspired writing that I could.

I think we can collectively do way better than this, so everyone look theirs up! I've now put myself out there so no one else can be more embarrassed than me.

ready, go.

I don’t think I’m going to get any confirmation on a room reservation today, but let’s just meet in the conference room on the 7th floor of MRB 3 (U-7202) at 6:30pm. People rarely use the conference rooms after 5pm anyway, so we should be good.

Quick update for those who couldn't make the meeting tonight- we decided to pursue the slapstick clinic skit, which should be funny and easy to shoot/edit. We brainstormed enough scenes so that everyone can participate (but feel free to add more!)  so just look for an email from Catherine about scheduling CELA time to film.
