Hey there, if anyone's interested we have a perfectly functional 40 watt china laser available that's been seen light duty use for the past couple years cutting acrylic and etching anodized aluminum, available for $400.  Like all china lasers it comes with the somewhat finicky moshi-draw software, and the hardware for mirror alignment, workpiece holding etc. is all a bit crude looking. For a hobby machine it does the job fine and if someone wanted to put time in it, it could be a tempting platform to upgrade. But as we realized it's not the kind of dependable setup you need for business use, and so we ended up upgrading to to a Full Spectrum Laser for the more versatile software and larger workspace area that it provides.

This includes the water pump, moshidraw dongle, and laser machine. The only additional things required to run it is a small water tank and a computer. If interested or more questions send an email to jus...@ebikes.ca

I want's it!... errr... i mean... I'd like to get this item no matter what size or capabilities it is. Partly because I was hoping to get something exactly like this with laser driver and tube to retrofit one of my machines but even if I don't do that, I have plenty of uses for a laser cutter. I'd care for it and feed it and clean it and make it all shiney and new again.

(also, I'm a little extra crazy right now and this would be a perfect thing for a crazy person, right?)

Justin -

Which FSLaser did you get instead?

portable was my first thought. Looked into feasibility of wave doubling to visible spectrum. CO2 to visible is a no-go. high power YAG only for this purpose.
My laser rifle will have to remain a mere 8watts visible for now. sigh

Hey right, we bought it on ebay from a guy in Toronto who was importing from China, where there isn't really much meaningful thing as 'make and model', although the sticker on the front says "AIP". Here's the pictures:

Cutting area?

Cutting area is about 300 x 200mm, but the internal cavity for deeper stuff is a fair bit less than that.

One of the main nuisances we had is that you have to move your workpiece to the laser focus plane, rather than having an easily adjustable 'Z' height on the final laser lens itself.

So you have to shim every piece?  I suppose that's not so bad if you're only cutting one thickness of material all the time...

There is only one focus lens in this.  Making the tube length adjustable is a simple mechanical change.
