I'd like to ask for some usability advice. I'm adding new features to
a website which uses Google maps, stephansmap.org - named after me:)
The website is like a CMS/Wiki where entries are tied to a place and a location.
I'd like to allow adding lines and labels and spots to the map - for any entry.
I find layout pretty difficult, and that becomes part of usability.
Here are two links:
http://stbgo.org/mapping/add_drawing?name=home
http://stbgo.org/mapping/labels_spots?name=home
The first one uses a wizard to collect the entry, the other a kind of
modal dialogue.
I separated the two different functionalities into two different pages
- they are made available in one page for example at
http://quikmaps.com/new however, I don't find that easy to use. Plus
it doesn't look compatible with the layout I have, and I'm aiming for
consistency.
I like the wizard because it avoids scrolling - there is more space to
explain the data that is collected. It seems to me to work ok with the
drawing, but it might look like overkill if the label/spots data was
collected the same way.
My questions are:
* Is the data collection for drawing ok ?
* What method should I use for labels / spots.
For comparison, the wizard for adding new entries is at
http://stbgo.org/create?lat=49.276652801580695&lng=-123.10918807983398&zoom=12
which I am quite happy with.
I haven't tested this in anything but Firefox. The whole site is still
under construction.
I am aware download times are slow, that is part of optimization and
saved for later on.
Thanks
Stephan
