Hey folks,

Just thought I'd get the ball rolling on fundraising.  I feel as though I have the energy to bottomline two dance parties as fundraisers.

1)
I was thinking one could be at the end of May at my house, hopefully with a similar vibe (and money raising capacity) to the Brokeback Brodown party back last December.  My place is highly wheelchair inaccessible but at long as we're up front about the level of accessibility I think that'd be okay...not ideal, but okay.  Also, maybe we could make it a BBQ in the backyard before the sun goes down so that folks with limited mobility can participate. Also, I was trying to think of themes and the best I came up with was a "Gay/Trans Liberation" theme...you know, come dressed as Sylvia Rivera, Marsha P. Johnson, Lou Sullivan, and all our trans foremothers/forefathers.  Continuing with the gay lib theme, we could turn one of my houses bedrooms into a "backroom" that people could pay an additional $5-$10 to enter to "do whatever they wish"

2)
The other party I was thinking of organizing was a dance party ala prance to be held at Gallery Gachet, Wise Hall, or some other accessible venue at the middle-to-end of June.  In addition to charging cover, we could do similar things to raise additional funds like having a kissing booth, 50-50. door prizes, selling booze, etc.

Are people okay with me bottomlining these? If so, I'll need help doing promo, volunteering @ the events themselves, scoping out & picking up raffle prizes

Is anyone else up for organizing the the pool&porn party, the meal in the park, or any other rad fundraising venture?

xoxo

cool, one event could be on a friday and one on a saturday.

Maybe the house party could be on a friday (the 28th of may?) as that's my night off.

So I spoke to my roommates and everything is a-ok on their end for throwing this party on Friday, May 28th. What do folks think about this date?

There are a few parties happening this weekend that we could start doing promo at.  Any ideas for performers (either accoustic musicians, performance artists, comedians, magicians...lol)? What do folks think about the theme (gay/trans liberation)? Also, in addition to the backroom themed room, I was also thinking that one of the rooms could be used as a substance free room complete with music, cards, boardgames, etc...that way there's a lil' escape from the hecticness that a party can sometimes produce. What do folks think?

The tentative schedule I was thinking for the night would be:

BBQ - 5pm till 8pm
8pm - 9pm - performances
9pm - onward - DANCE PARTY!
(approx. 10:30-11:00 there would be an auction as well)

It all sounds loverly, but I'll still be in Seattle with my GF that weekend. Poo. Anything I can do to help before I go (on the 21st)? The Brokeback Brodown party was a huge success from what I saw (the old folks leave early), if we could come close to that I'd be very happy.

I like the games idea!

Around the theme -  I like it, but isn't the 'Pride' theme something like that this year?

PS:  Not that I want to VOLUNTEER anyone, but  if you asked em, Kate, maybe you could get Telyn to perform.  Please?

I asked a couple of people, Shawna's interested in performing, she's a burlesque dancer, and my buddy Poi a photographer might be willing to auction himself off.  His photography skills, I mean.

Anyways, do we have an official call for performers/ actionable skills sheet?  They want to see something in writing about what they're supposed to do.

Thanks!

hey group. Are we still wanting to book the wise hall for a fundraiser?

Dani did you get an answer from your friend on availability and costs?

I also thought the consensus was to have a variety of performers - and to make sure they are trans as well.

I want to contact performers but need dates venue and capacity information.

Should we skip the wise hall- or not? What does everyone think?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

@ Amber ---> Yeah I think an event at the wise hall would still be great.  Maybe for the fundraiser in mid-late June? I was thinking it could happen either at the Wise Hall or at Gallery Gachet, where the past couple prances have been....either one would be super IMO,

You should definitely start contacting folks now!  I've put the call out to all my trans friends who do comedy, performance art, drag, spoken word, etc but there's always more networks :)

@ Dani--> for sure, let's book it ASAP...cause as you said last meeting, it might be tight getting a choice date *eep*

@ Kat--> I will come up with a call out for performers as well as volunteers today and then maybe you could send them to your peeps?

Can you add to the end that "the conference site IS accessible even if Glamhaus isn't".

ppps; I've got my ticket for Seattle, I'll be back late (10:30pm) on the 28th (if She doesn't tell me to change it), so I'll be able to help with clean up at least.
And I don't care if the graphic's slightly stolen, I'm sure it got changed enough to make ours.

@ Dani--> so glad you'll be able to help out!  Also, great thing to add to the flier thx!

@ Kat--> yeah it's stolen but like Dani said, it's changed so much it. Also, I spoke to my roommate Kim who works in the print industry, and she said that as long as its for personal use (ie: we're not using the images to sell tshirts or whatevs) it's not a problem at all.

And yeah I think the event is definitely Greater Vancouver Trans Forum so that ppl don't think it's Vancouver proper only.

I am wondering if that should be a decision for the meeting for tomorrow?  As that is a major change and it affects all the committees.

Yeah.... I'm with Amber.  If we're short for cash I'll front the $10.  I think the Liberals might have an entire section of government intent on sucking us little guys dry.

when do we need the raffle permit?

i bought a whack of stuff from early to bed - was ordering other
stuff, so they cut a great deal.

question for group vote:
should we have a silent auction/fund raiser for ppl to bid on during
the forum - then give prizes at the end?

also is there going to be prizes at the dance and pool party too?

Vancouver Trans Forum

yup I was definitely thinking that a ton of the prizes could be given out as auction-items at the dance party!

As for the pool party, that might be too hard to organize (ie: raffle tix will get wet and/or locked up in people's lockers).

I'm personally doing two raffles per night at the film fest.  One for the pair of tickets to various vancouver queer film fest films and one for the month-long memberships to gooddykeporn.com

Yay!

xoxo
Kate

P.S. I totally support the silent auction idea
