saturday july 24th @ 2 pm central park, burnaby (near patterson skytrain station)
snacks will be served, bring your friends, family, banners
"Join this grassroots movement to demand that the minister of citizenship, immigration and multiculturalism, jason kenney stop stiffling dissenting voices: halt detentions and deportations; abolish temporary worker programs; withdraw support for military occupations from afghanistan to palestine; and end its discrimination against women, queer communities, immigrants, and racialized people!"

Hey everyone
So I heard back from no one is illegal and they would be very happy if we sent them a statement of support. my friend (who is trans and a great speaker) will read it at the rally.
I think it would be good to mention how we feel jason kenney specifically attacks our community by excluding the rights of lesbian, gays, bisexuals, queers, trans, two spirit etc from Canada’s Citizenship guide. Jason kenney has made reforms where people cannot make refugee claims who are from countries that are considered "Safe". This means if your country is transphobic or homophobic but considered safe by this conservative government youre out of luck. bill c-11 is what they are working on reforming right now if anyone is interested. There are a number of reasons this guy is a total jerk and a lot of parralels and links can be made between the different people his policies affect.
Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas? maybe we can put this together somewhat collectivly online as we dont have a meeting before the rally. I dont think it needs to be to long or anything....

Awesome. I think the basics of a statement may be right there in the
text of your last mail, Hunter. We could just tweak it and fill it
out a bit, add intro greetings that identify the VTF and what it is,
etc.

My suggestion for additional text is to include, perhaps at the close
of the message: "The MInister is RESPONSIBLE and the Minister MUST
RESIGN!"

The vancouver trans forum is a gathering of trans people and allies to educate each other and the people they have to deal with. As the forum is happening right now, members of the organizing collective and participants of the forum would love to attend this rally but cannot. We are outraged about the exclusion Jason kenney has made of trans and queer people from Canada's citizen guide. We stand with everyone excluded and affected by Kenney's racist, sexist, homophobic, and transphobic immigration policies. As trans people we know the threat of violence exists everywhere, Canada included, and we hope that by standing together as oppressed communities we can unite to defeat the imperialist and colonialist systems that affects us all.
The minister is responsible and the minister must resign.
