I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to invite you to an upcoming Food Sovereignty Café that Trish Mandewo's companies Ubuntu StratEdge and Synergy Executive & Boards Consulting Group are organizing on behalf of Food Secure Canada. All organizations will have an opportunity to share some of the work you all have been doing to tackle food security challenges.
The two Cafe's (one for people of African Descent and another for Indigenous peoples) will be happening on August 23, 5:30 - 8:00pm, at Oceanic Plaza Towers 1035 West Pender Street Vancouver, BC V6C 3R2.
The Advisory Circle from Food Secure Canada's food sovereignty project will be stopping over in Vancouver and meeting and engaging with Indigenous peoples and people of African descent to learn about their challenges, triumphs, and ongoing efforts to create more equitable access to healthy food. The Ministry of Agriculture will also be there to share about the BC government's recent announcement of $30 million into indigenous communities to build and strengthen distinct local food systems, including the revitalization of traditional production, harvest and preservation practices. FSC is advocating for similar commitments to be made for Black communities. Walmart Canada has funded FSC's mandate thus far and they are looking to expand the funding to other organizations based on the information gathered at the events like this one.
I am the acting coordinator and will be available to answer any questions you might have via email or by phone at 604-679-5544.
Information is also available here on the Indigenous and Black People's Food Sovereignty Project through Food Secure Canada.
