Think&EatGreen@School Institute

What is Think&EatGreen@School?

The Think&EatGreen@School Project is a Community-University Research Alliance promoting change in what K-12 students eat, learn and do at school in relation to food, health and the environment. The project engages students through growing, preparing, and sharing food and managing food waste. The Project and Institute wouldn’t be possible without the numerous community partners that bring the partnership alive!

What is the Think&EatGreen@School Institute?

The Think&EatGreen@School Institute will contribute to grow the vision and capacity of school staff, students, and school communities to collaboratively develop and share knowledge on healthy and sustainable food systems at their schools. The Institute will build upon the work of the previous Think&EatGreen@School Summer Institutes, which have taken place annually in early July. This Institute will focus on extending the season of food cycle learning opportunities and discussions of what schools can be doing throughout the school year.

This two-day experiential learning institute will host a combination of plenaries and hands on workshops focusing on different components of the school food system: food gardens and orchards; composting and waste management; food procurement; food preparation and consumption; innovations in teaching and learning; and school food policies. To see pictures and schedules from previous Institutes please click here.

Working with others in our school communities is an important part of making lasting change possible. As such, we are asking that people try to come as part of teams from school communities, potentially including teachers, administrators, support staff, parents and community partners, as is relevant to your school.

There is a stream for high school youth leaders (promotion for you attached) at this year’s Institute.  If you know youth that might be interested in attending please have them visit www.youth4action.ca or contact youth4...@metrovancouver.org.
