Held at Strathcona Community Gardens – outside the orchard
In attendance: Peter Finch, David Tracey, Cylia Wong (notetaker)
Brent Mansfield sent his regrets.
City Compost Delivery
Our understanding is that existing community gardens are still
eligible to receive free compost delivery annually. New gardens are
also eligible for compost delivery when starting. No further action
required at this time.
Guidelines for Community Gardens on City Owned Land
Cylia had drafted up a suggested response to be sent to city
officials. The group reviewed and discussed the proposal and agreed
to some rewording. She will send out to Scott Edwards, Engineering,
all city councilors, Devorah Kahn, Food Policy Coordinator. Action by
Cylia
Communications to Community Gardens
Cylia advised that she emailed the July minutes to community garden
coordinators on the current contact list and will continue to do so
(to keep them informed of our actions). Consideration will be made to
expanding the list to include contacts from the Parks Board and/or
food policy lists. Action by Cylia
Promotion at Public Events
Cylia mentioned that she had received an invitation to display/promote
our group with other urban agriculture groups at the PNE in
September. The group discussed briefly and decided that we didn’t
have the time or resources at present to accept the offer.
Food Security Questionnaire by Municipal Elections
Cylia read the questionnaire to the group and we discussed proposed
changes. Cylia will send suggestions to the rep. Action by Cylia
As there was no other business, the meeting adjourned at 7 p.m.
