Most screen reader users are already familiar with how words are spoken by their tools, the quirks associated with abbreviations, dates, times, etc. By trying to override it you run the risk of confusing your users.

Definitely do not try to repurpose . In general, if you do not understand an element then do not use it, and certainly not as a hack. That can cause problems for people trying to auto-translate the content.

If the span element is the AT's focus, it would be announced as having a role of "group", which can be overridden with an aria-roledescription attribute (only non-whitespace values allowed). The role is not described when reading sentences or paragraphs.

Remember that the Bible is for more than information. Ultimately, God gave us His Word for our transformation. It affects us and should solicit a response (i.e. praise, thanksgiving, confession, repentance, etc.). He called us to be doers of the word, not hearers only.

I just downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader (18.011.20040) on my new computer. I create files all the time through Microsoft Word and Excel. When I save these files as PDFs, Adobe Reader automatically opens. I do not want that to happen. I simply want it to save as a PDF and go on with my life. How do I stop it from opening automatically?

This did work for me also, but I was using Snagit Editor for capturing screenshots and saving as a PDF. I had to also uncheck this box 'view Adobe PDF results' in my Snagit Editor app. So wherever you are printing to PDF 'from', you may have to uncheck this box in each app... word, excel, etc.

I figured it out! Due to the fact that you are converting the file it will automatically pop up. Instead use Browser to print to PDF, it will save the file wherever you chose but not reopen. I used Microsoft Print to PDF.

From Chrome go to Settings under the Hamburger menu

PDF Documents
Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome - Turn ON

You can change this when you are saving the document as a PDF. When the Save As box pops up, there will be a checked box for Open file after publishing. Uncheck that box to fix the problem. Press Save and the issue should be fixed for any future Save As PDF documents.

I did all this that was suggested or at least tried some of it but my chrome options are not the same as suggested here. What else can I do? Its getting so annoying for every scan to open up right after scanning. HELP!

If you've tried this and it didn't work, go to control panel > hardware & sound > Devices & printers, choose Adobe PDF printer, right-click, printing properties, and uncheck "view adobe PDF results", hit ok.

Same thing is happening to me now. I can't find any answer anywhere. When I download a PDF which I do all day long for work it automatically opens now. This just started for me along with an error every time I close the PDF.

thank you. dont know why adobe starred those top two comments, chrome was never the issue, their stupid app is. and i cant delete their stupid app because this is a company computer and i dont have those permissions. this should be top comment

Update: I finally figured it out. This post helped: -discussions/pdf-downloaded-from-chrome-automatically-opening-.... Tl;dr: I had the new version of Acrobat disabled (purely because I hate it when software developers change the UI for no reason), and there's a bug in the old version that causes this. I enabled the new version and then disabled it again, and it isn't auto-opening pdfs anymore. I still don't have this checkbox in my settings, either in the new or old version of Acrobat, but at least I have a solution now.

Thank you so much, I'm not sure when Adobe switched this on automatically but it was driving me crazy. Just because I download it doesn't mean I want to open it. I usually want to move it somewhere other than my downloads folder. I'll decide when to open it thank you!

You can uncheck the option of "View Adobe PDF results" in Acrobat's Preferences by navigating to Acrobat ribbon in Word>Preferences>Uncheck "View Adobe PDF result">Click Ok, Let us know how it goes and share your findings.

Sight word booklets are a great way for beginning readers to practice reading sentences and short stories. The booklets I create use sight words in simple sentences and helps build confidence in readers. As we all know, the more children read and see sight words, the better they will be at reading!

Decades of reading research have led to sophisticated accounts of single-word recognition and, in parallel, accounts of eye-movement control in text reading. Although these two endeavors have strongly advanced the field, their relative independence has precluded an integrated account of the reading process. To bridge the gap, we here present a computational model of reading, OB1-reader, which integrates insights from both literatures. Key features of OB1 are as follows: (1) parallel processing of multiple words, modulated by an attentional window of adaptable size; (2) coding of input through a layer of open bigram nodes that represent pairs of letters and their relative position; (3) activation of word representations based on constituent bigram activity, competition with other word representations and contextual predictability; (4) mapping of activated words onto a spatiotopic sentence-level representation to keep track of word order; and (5) saccade planning, with the saccade goal being dependent on the length and activation of surrounding word units, and the saccade onset being influenced by word recognition. A comparison of simulation results with experimental data shows that the model provides a fruitful and parsimonious theoretical framework for understanding reading behavior. This is a Sight Word Mini Reader FREEBIE that is great for beginning readers! The sentences in this mini reader focus on the sight word: 'can'. The sentences on each page are repetitive with picture support.

After the teacher exhausts her toolkit of vague prompts, she pronounces each part for the student and then tells her the word. Neither the teacher nor the student seem to have a strategy for breaking the word into syllables. In this video, intended to be an exemplar, the teacher resorts to doing the decoding herself and the child misses an opportunity to learn how to tackle polysyllabic words.

In order to teach readers how to work through challenging words efficiently and effectively, we need to provide prompts that help children to internalize the logic of the written code. The word nocturnal contains phonics that should be within the reach of a first or second grader, but without effective instruction in how to apply phonics to reading, the child may continue to guess the word natural and therefore lose meaning from the text.

If a child stumbles on a word while reading, an attentive adult can provide prompts that reinforce the logic of the written language. Phonics programs with explicit, systematic instruction include routines for introducing and reinforcing application of spelling patterns. Scripted language not only supports teachers in making phonics instruction efficient, students internalize the prompts and become confident in tackling words.

Effective phonics instruction includes providing students with texts that reflect the spellings taught (decodable texts). A child grappling with short vowels should not be given text that requires knowledge of long vowels or inflectional endings. Once a child has mastered short vowel words (tap, hop, tub), then long vowels can be introduced (tape, hope, tube) and both the adult and the child can adjust to the new prompt (Is there an E at the end?). And when final-e has been mastered, the next phonics concept can be introduced.
