The main page presently has a link to an index page with articles sorted
by category. The page is not complete but could be built from the
special:categories listing.

I have two problems with this. First, MediaWiki does not force the
writer of an article to assign categories to his or her piece. Second,
the index page cannot be automatically generated, near as we know, so it
would need manual updating. And there would still be those good articles
that don't have categories assigned.

I propose that this particular index page be deleted, and all the
articles presently listed on page have their links moved to one of the
newer index pages (see the Main page for the list, add other indexes if
needed).

If someone wants to add an "Adjusting the Veeblefetzer" page they have
two ways to go about it.

1. Click into the Technical Articles index, edit it to add the link
then clicking on that link would open the editor to create the page.

2. or use the search box to seek the as-yet-uncreated-page, mediawiki
would then open the editor to permit creation of the page, then once
saved, the writer would then edit the relevant index page to add a link
to that page.

This make sense?

If so, I can add all this in a how-to paragraph on the Main page.
