Surrey RCMP investigates Whalley apartment fire after a body is found inside an apartment unit
Just after 8 a.m. Saturday Surrey Fire responded to a call at Bristol Estate apartments

Surrey RCMP has taken over the investigation of an apartment fire in Whalley on Saturday (March. 11) after Surrey Fire Services discovered a deceased individual when extinguishing a fire in the first-floor suite.
Shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday (March. 11) Surrey Fire responded to a call at Bristol Estate apartments (13315 104 Ave) in Whalley. Mark Seter, a Surrey Fire Service assistant chief said the deceased individual appears to be the occupant of the suite.
Seter told the Now-Leader that Surrey fire extinguished the fire quickly. As a result, the fire was contained to the apartment on the first floor and no other units had smoke or water damage.
Surrey fire crews did not hear the smoke alarms upon arrival. Seter suggests that residents test their smoke detectors monthly to ensure they are working properly. (Greg: The building I live in in Newton has monthly smoke alarm tests by professionals.)
Surrey RCMP has taken over the investigation and says the cause of the fire is not yet known. In a news release Saturday afternoon Surrey RCMP stated, “Surrey RCMP Officers are canvassing for witnesses in the area.”

This place is great if you're not going anywhere fast. The renos are slow, if things in your suite need fixing, fix it yourself. The management don't care about you, they were personable at one time, but not anymore. All around the apartment complex there are new buildings being built and nothing is being done to improve this place. Yes we have new fences but nothing else. The empty apartments are being cleaned up with hardwood floors, but the rented ones are not, tenants aren't even being asked if they would like new floors. The apartments need updating, but I'm afraid of what might happen to tenants that live here. The rent might go so high that no one could live here. Big dogs are welcome and that's a plus. The tenants that have been here for a while are great, but the new ones stay for a year or less and are mean. There are a few nice things I can say about this place, it's close to (within walking distance): shopping malls, bus/sky trains, swimming pools, libraries, restaurants, and parks. There's more I could say but I won't. Thanks.

My shower was unhealthy, I had to call outside help to fix my ceiling to make it healthy. My overhead fan over my stove was fixed four times and still broke, I again had to call outside help and got a new fan. I’m not sure the staff is licensed to do the work they do, makes me afraid to live here but I have no where else to go. The fixes that go on here are bubble gum fixes. The trees maybe old but they are unkept. If you want anything fixed it’s free the first time but they’ll charge you next time. On the good side this is the only place (I’ve looked for days/months) that allows Pit Bulls. Pit Bulls get a really bad rap they’re really sweet dogs. Please spend some time with one at a shelter, you’ll fall head over heals in love.

5 seperate guys offered to sell me weed or crack. Some teenage girl

Sad to see the mongoloid couple who have lived around here for a long
time looking scared by all the drug activity. Meanwhile Grewal goes on
stress leave, Customs Officers smuggle drugs and the Feds waste money
that could be used for law enforcement on $1,200 golf balls and cash
stuffed envelopes to flunkies.
Heard that in Kelowna that people are being put in jail for not
wearing bike helmets in an attempt to crack down on ppl who use
bicycles to sell drugs and commit so called petty crimes. Good for
them they should do that here. For the record one of the guys who
tried to sell me drugs was on a bike without a helmet and I don't wear
a helmet when I cycle.

26-year-old man arrested and charged in February homicide in Surrey
By Jon Azpiri
Online News Producer Global News
A second-degree murder charge has been laid in connection with a homicide in Surrey back in February.
Pee Lee Pi, 26, has been arrested and charged in the death of 68-year-old Tee Bor, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Monday.
Bor was found suffering from serious injuries at Bristol Estates, an apartment complex near 133 Street and 105 Avenue, and later died in hospital.
Multiple residents told Global News at the time they saw a man with what appeared to be a stab wound being taken away by ambulance and a younger man taken away in handcuffs but officials have not confirmed those details.

Investigators said at the time that they did not believe the incident was linked to the Lower Mainland gang conflict and believed it was a targeted event with no continued risk to public safety.
Pi will appear in B.C. provincial court on Monday.

the yellow bungalow at W.Whalley Ring Rd. and 105 Ave. in Surrey has been
trashed and tagged. The face tag is one that has been going on for yrs.
Hopefully the old man who lived there is doing well and enjoying his
windfall. The property must be worth over 750k. He used to use an old TV
news style camera to film the hookers and clients that used the street. Who
knows maybe he has Tony Beck aka Anthony Tony Beck. I enjoyed the cats that
used to laze on his lawn and the squirrels that played in the yard. He also
had a nice painting at the front of his house. Now that the place is an
eyesore it should be demolished.
All three houses on the corner there have now been destroyed and the SW
corner lot turned into a nice condo development that I worked on. While it
is nice I liked it when the ducks used to float on the water there and
hopefully they will find another place in Whalley to hang out. Quack quack.
The house across the street is gone. The person living there was also the
caretaker of Whalley Park and did an excellent job of it. Hope he is doing
well.

Woman wanted to save cats
Tom Zytaruk
Mary Ann Williamson was relaxing at home just after midnight Wednesday
when her pet dog, Tuxedo, freaked out at her door, barking at some
unseen threat on the other side.
Williamson crouched down to take a peek through the mail slot, and,
seeing flickering flames, opened her door to find her next door
neighbour, Bev Parent, engulfed in fire.
"I looked into a funnel of fire down the hall and she was burning,"
Williamson recalled.
Her hair ablaze and face blackened with soot, Parent still wanted to
go back into her apartment to save her 59 cats, which ended up dying
from suffocation.
Investigators at press time considered the Bristol Estates fire, at
13328 105th Ave., to be "likely accidental" but had yet to identify
the cause.
Parent was rushed to Vancouver General Hospital's burn unit in
critical condition, having sustained burns over most of her body. She
later died of her injuries.
Her ground-floor apartment was completely destroyed in the fire.
Williamson, who lives across an outside hall from Parent's apartment,
called 911 and tried to help Parent as flames shot along the ceiling
to burn the wall above her own door.
"It's totally devastating," Williamson said of Parent's misfortune.
She described her as "one of the nicest people you could meet."
Williamson said Parent worked at a radio station and kept her
apartment clean, despite having so many cats. She said Parent
collected strays and would take them to the vet when need be.
Looking at a crisped ceramic cat in a pile of soot outside Parent's
front door, Williamson said of the animals, "I knew in my heart that
none of them got out."

Theory: HA wants to increase its drug trafficking and prostitution
activities on the street. The prostitution has decreased to nil. This
is probably idle speculation on my part but it wouldn't be the first

Global News ran a story in which someone claimed the fire started in a
suite someone had just been evicted from and that they made a number of
threats. A number of residents believe a meth lab or grow op was behind
the fire. Global News showed a young Caucasian man with close cropped
hair in a red and white Haney support jacket present at the scene. This
building is located in Newton and ppl wearing HA support gear have been
seen selling drugs at the bus loop at the Newton Wave Pool. Three days
later and the official story is that they haven't located the woman
whose suite started the fire which was the lead story in the news that
day. Seems suspicious. A HA sympathizer who lives in the building at
7185 HAll Rd. told me his residence escaped damage and he wasn't going
to help any of the homeless. The building had been plagued by false
alarms.
This wouldn't be the first time a fire in Surrey with HAMC overtones
was explained away. Some ppl in HA are hoping that Surrey will get its
own chapter and a number of ppl claim to be Surrey HA. I think a
Whalley rocker would be interesting.

Investigators don't know cause of Surrey fire

Extensive damage' in Surrey blaze, chief says
Post-Christmas fire forces 100 people from their homes
SHANNON KARI
VANCOUVER -- Several residents of an apartment complex in Surrey face
an uncertain future as a result of the damage from a fire on Wednesday
that forced about 100 people from their homes.
"There has been extensive damage," said Brock Dorward, a battalion
chief with the Surrey Fire Department.
Firefighters could be seen sifting through the debris of the 65-unit
apartment building yesterday morning and Mr. Dorward said it will
likely have to be torn down.
The fire at the building near 72nd Avenue and the King George Highway
started Wednesday afternoon and more than 60 firefighters were called
in to bring it under control. Some fire crews were still at the scene
yesterday because of concerns about "hot spots" that could flare up.
"I went down the hall and saw smoke coming out the door" of an
apartment, said Tim Hoffman, a resident of the building.
Mr. Hoffman said he tried to kick open the door but "it got too hot,
too smoky," so he grabbed a fire extinguisher. "I banged on doors with
the fire extinguisher and told people to get out," Mr. Hoffman said.
It is too early to determine the cause of the fire, Mr. Dorward said,
although he discounted a suggestion that it was linked to a possible
drug lab in an apartment.
"I don't think that is a part of our investigation," he said.
The battalion chief confirmed only that the fire started in a
second-floor unit in the three-story building.
Firefighters were hampered in their efforts, Mr. Dorward said, because
some of the residents initially did not want to leave the building
after the fire started.
Five people were treated for smoke inhalation and one resident remained
in hospital yesterday in serious but stable condition.
Many of the residents are on a fixed income and it is believed that
very few had fire insurance.
"As for what happens next, I don't know," resident Corrie Owens said.
"The only thing we can do is start over," she said, adding that she
lost most of her possessions in the fire.
Mr. Hoffman believes his former home is going to be torn down so he is
looking for a new place to live while his family stays with relatives.
"You spend all your money on Christmas, thinking you are going to have
a great year and an awesome holiday, and then this happens and you are
stuck with nothing," he said.
The provincial government provides funding for 72 hours of emergency
assistance, which is administered by the municipality.
About 40 people have been put up at local hotels and can stay there
under the assistance program until tomorrow afternoon. They are also
eligible for a daily food allowance of $45 for three days and a
one-time clothing allowance of up to $150.
"They are thankful for the assistance," said John Evanochko, who is
administering the assistance program on behalf of the city.
"It is very traumatic to be chased out of your home by a fire."
Officials with the provincial Ministry of Employment and Income
Assistance have been meeting with the residents to discuss other
programs that may be available after the 72-hour emergency assistance
period is over, including short-term housing.
According to Mr. Evanochko, a number of Surrey residents dropped off
water, food and blankets after learning about the fire. The Surrey Fire
Department is also setting up a bank account for people who wish to
donate money.

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) - Investigators say they haven't been able to
establish a cause yet for the massive fire that rampaged through a
Surrey apartment complex near 72nd and King George Highway yesterday,
leaving 100 people homeless. Battalion Chief Brock Dorward with the
Surrey Fire Department says they do know the blaze started in a
specific second-floor apartment. They can't investigate further until
they can speak to the woman who lives in the apartment and her
neighbours, to see if something like a cigarette or candle is involved.
So far they are having difficulty establishing contact with the
residents.
The resident being treated for extremely serious smoke inhalation is
still in VGH's hyperbaric chamber, but he has been stabilized. The
insurance company for the building is now in charge of when people will
be allowed back in to sift through their belongings, and the initial
damage estimate to the building is four million dollars. In the
meantime, 49 people are now using emergency shelter services.

There has been an increase in HA activity in the neighbourhood and the
apartment of the building oppositte at 224-13325-105 Ave. that has had
gang ppl and HA supporters wearing t-shirts in it. This apartment is
directly across the street.
This building is bizarre in that it is the only one in Surrey divided
into cell blocks. A, B, C, D, E blocks. Just like in prisons. When I
first moved in the local miscreants across the way were pushing my
buzzer to annoy me and phoning me but when I contacted the manager
the female manager denied it. I then contacted the Vancouver head
office and the calls stopped. Aspec Security (red and white colour
scheme) was at the site next door but they have since been removed.
Theory: HA wants to increase its drug trafficking and prostitution
activities on the street. The prostitution has decreased to nil. This
is probably idle speculation on my part but it wouldn't be the first
time an arson fire wasn't initially recognized as such.
My apologies to the parent family if this information is wrong. I
never met the woman but some former neighbours of hers told me she was
quite a nice woman.
P.S. Who killed Colleen Ryder (sp?) HA that's who.
