The Quebec general election of 1985 was held on December 2, 1985, to elect members of the National Assembly of the Province of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party, led by Robert Bourassa, defeated the incumbent Parti Québécois. However, Bourassa personally failed to win his own seat in the Bertrand electoral district.
On January 20, 1986, he was elected in a by-election in the Liberal stronghold of Saint-Laurent after the sitting Liberal MNA Germain Leduc resigned to vacate it.
