after a shots-fired call lead to the discovery of a dead man in
Whalley.
Police responded to 133rd Street and 105-A Avenue but were hindered by
a group youths, "Upon attendance there were some individuals in the
area that were obstructing members that were here and as a result they
were taken into custody and they'll be spoken to with regards to this
investigation."
Inspector Darren Lench says they are being held for questioning.
He told Global-TV it's too early to know if the shooting is gang
related

Global TV said local residents refer to the building as the rock in
reference for its drug problems. Yet another problem building owned by
the Onni Group. Police frequently visit this building which is the
biggest problem on 105A Avenue.
Also Global TV reported that a man had been shot and killed at
Guildford Mall at around 5:30pm.

Surrey has had a rash of shootings over the last two weeks, as well as
two murders in six days.
On Monday, Whalley's Parkside Apartment building was the scene of its
second gun incident in two months with the slaying of a 25-year-old
resident.
James Ward Erickson, who had a minor criminal record for mischief and
causing a disturbance, was gunned down about 9:15 p.m. on the second
floor of the three-storey building at 13352 - 105A Ave.
Cpl. Dale Carr, of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, said
police were originally called after shots were fired. They found
Erickson already dead inside an apartment.
The building is just off the Whalley Ring Road and near the Surrey
Central SkyTrain station -- a popular area for drug traffickers and
their clients. Carr said Erickson lived in the Parkside, which had
one- and two-bedroom suites for rent Tuesday.
In December, Surrey RCMP raided a suite in the same building to arrest
21-year-old Shane Gidon, who was wanted for attempted murder in
connection with two north Surrey shootings.
At the time, police said they found a machine gun in the apartment
where Gidon was located.
Police remained on the scene of Erickson's slaying most of Tuesday.
The young man's body was removed by the B.C. Coroners' Service about
10:30 a.m., a grey blanket draped over the stretcher as Erickson was
loaded into a white van.
Barry Coldwell, who lives in an apartment complex next door, said the
Parkside is nicknamed "the rock" because of the amount of drug
trafficking going on inside.
"I am moving out of this neighbourhood. It is horrible," he said.
He said there are drug dealers, prostitutes and condoms littering the
neighbourhood streets and parking lots. "This neighbourhood is at
least as bad as the Downtown Eastside. There's no difference,"
Coldwell said.
Carr said that when police attempted to secure the scene, "officers
were met with some resistance from individuals from inside the
building."
"Four persons were detained for obstructing police and brought to the
Surrey RCMP office. All individuals have been spoken to by police and
all but one has been released," Carr said. "The one individual that
remains in custody is not a suspect in this incident, he was held on
an outstanding warrant of arrest."
Carr said it was too soon to know if Erickson's slaying was related to
gangs or organized crime, but it bore common traits with other recent
shootings.

The grieving mother of the man who was gunned down Tuesday in the
parking lot of a Surrey, B.C., mall says her son had no gang
connections and was a victim of mistaken identity.
Multiple shots were fired at the parked, white SUV in which Raphael
Baldini was sitting outside Guildford Town Centre shortly after 5 p.m.
Tuesday. Attempts to revive Baldini failed, and he later died in
hospital.
His mother, Cindy, told CBC News on Wednesday he was using a friend's
vehicle at the time and the gunfire would not have been targeted at
him.
"[He's] sitting in somebody's car outside of a mall waiting for
friends, talking to his friend on the phone, and all he said was, 'Oh
my God,' " she said.
Earlier Wednesday, the RCMP said Baldini had links to the site of one
of the worst unsolved gang slayings in B.C. history, which occurred 1½
years ago.
RCMP Cpl. Dale Carr says Raphael Baldini had links to the site of one
of the worst unsolved gang slayings in B.C. history. (CBC) Cpl. Dale
Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Baldini rented
the Surrey apartment where six men were shot dead in October 2007.
But Cindy Baldini said her son, 21, had moved out of and sublet the
unit eight months before the slayings occurred.
Carr said it nevertheless appears Baldini was killed in deliberate
hit, and investigators continue to look for other links.
"It does look like it was targeted at that specific individual," Carr
said.
"It's easy for police to say that because he's gone. He's gone, but
I'm here to defend my son's name," Cindy Baldini replied.
Baldini had just appeared in court on Tuesday morning to face charges
of assault and uttering threats. He had a criminal record dating back
to 2005 for a variety of offences.
Slaying of 6 in Surrey unsolved
The killing of the six men in the Surrey apartment in October 2007
remains unsolved.
Police have said four of the men killed were involved in the drug
trade and had links to the Red Scorpion gang.
But police said two of the victims, Chris Mohan and Abbotsford gas
fitter Ed Schellenburg, were innocent men in the wrong place at the
wrong time.
Chris Mohan lived across the hall from Baldini's apartment with his
mother, Eileen Mohan. She told CBC News on Tuesday that Baldini was
always very quiet and polite when she ran in to him in the hallway,
and she was disappointed to hear of his death.
"I'm really disappointed, because I was hoping that maybe one day I
could see him face to face and get to question him," she told CBC
News.
She said she believes Baldini was killed because he knew who was
responsible for the slayings of the six men.

The Surrey six murders were in revenge for the killing of Dylan Becker
a popular meth maker working for HA. This latest killing could be a
way of silencing a potential witness something HAMC is known to do.
The memorial to all six ppl that used to be at the front of the
apartment complex where the murders occurred has long since been torn
down.
