My experience @ Brandi's Show Lounge June 2022
Discussion
Super disappointed; I had heard great things about this place over the years and this would have been our first time here. We were super excited walking in, only to find this place is deserving of 0 stars, if possible.
Absolutely disgusted with the classless and racist treatment of our bachelorette party last night. Worst in Vancouver; if you want a strip club, go to literally any other establishment in town. Management here is super shady; the way they behave on site is atrocious.
Tipping everyone everywhere from the moment you walk in doesnt help either; most expensive 20 minutes I have ever spent in my life - tipped on cover & coat check, bought a table and tipped 25% on that expecting good service, went to the bar @ the back to get drinks (tipped there too) because the server wouldnt even start us off with waters after a $30 tip from the get-go.
While waiting for the rest of our party to arrive and discussing drink options for our first round with everyone, a manager comes over and tells us we have to leave because we haven't ordered any drinks yet (all within the first 10 minutes of arriving, finding/paying (extra) for a table and sitting down - even after just coming back from buying drinks @ the bar). I tried to talk to the manager to ask what was going on and tried to explain to him this is a stagette, our whole group isnt here yet and we just sat down... not only was he rolling his eyes at me and not understanding, he instead roid-raged over to our table, picked it up, smashing all our glasses on the floor (including all the drinks we paid for), demanded we leave (in his words he did all that while screaming "GTFO"), and put his hands on one of us while saying we are supposed to pay for all the girls' rents within the first 10minutes of being there (LOL, what?).
We came stacked with cash ready for a great night out but it got ugly so fast for no reason. The male staff assaulted my female friend and physically dragged her out as she was screaming at the top of her lungs. Looks like the reputation of this establishment has been destroyed over the years with subpar staffing. Late OG owner Brandi would be turning in their grave.
Crazy rich Asians, beware and avoid this place at all costs!!! The bald manager who was roid-raging made racist comments and said they dont appreciate money coming from "our kind" O.O? Excuse me? - very sad.
Has anyone else had a similar experience here ? Please share

Gino Zumpano the aging Hell's Angel Pres runs that place. Google Group search van.general with his name for more info or Brandi's or Swedish Touch they both have the same street address. The late owner was murdered and none of her "friends" cared. Frequent complaints that the place is constantly trying to get money from customers. Last time I walked by though there was a line up to get in.

I just checked Google Reviews and found this surprisingly similar (yet different) review from a bachelor group:
Was pretty disappointed with this place recently. Went there with 5-6 guys for a bachelors. We paid to get in, got a table. Someone came over told us to order something or leave. We said we will but give us a couple minutes becuase we literally just sat down. The guy pressed on literally telling us to order something now or gtfo. That didn't go well with us, there was no need with that kind of tone since we again just sat down. So we left, saw a few other tables with guys who haven't order anything yet that didn't get harassed. Figured this was likely a racially charged incident. Not surprised, but also not pleased with their attitude towards Asians. At least try to hide it better next time.

Buy a drink or GTFO is literally what is used to be like at booze cans. (Illegal after hours places that sold alcohol).
I haven't been to Brandy's for 5-6 years but I do remember the place being a totally overrated dump and we only stayed for one beer and then couldn't wait to leave only to never return/

To be honest, I'm not surprised; it looks like many people had similar experiences. They just didnt end up being physically removed and causing a scene.

You ladies didn't budge to be treated unfairly and wasn't about to let them bully you to the end which is probably why he raged to physically remove you for no reason as he is probably used to men fighting back or women instantly running out the door with fear. He had to prove a point by making a scene by breaking glass while ruining the beautiful dancers show just because you guys paid 100s and not 1000s, in which made him look bad and i am sure there are tons of witnesses. But good for you ladies because this sound ridiculous and unnecessary to its limit. Yuck.

In fairness, since their issues fighting their license suspension in the 90s, they have done a better job at concealing their activities. But ya, many places in vancouver have some major problems with hell's angels and other gangs. Much less overt than in the early 90s but still a major problem. many places just fronts for money laundering. Wonder which places, usually the ones that stayed closed for the entire pandemic and then miraculously opened as if nothing happened.

It was called Sneaky Petes in the 90s, and was just a nightclub. The HA owns the whole building and owns everything in the building, including the Keg Caesers and Swedish Touch massage parlor.

The space was most recently Level 5 ( owned by Sean Millington and there was a shooting) then Club Millennium where I was a server. Brandi owned part of Club Millennium before she opened her show lounge in 2000 together with the other investors all of whom I know and worked with for years. Your HA comment isn’t fully accurate- it’s complicated. Worked a lot of golf tournaments for the building through CM and BSL and knew employees in the floors including Swedish Touch ( where our waitress uniforms were laundered that I had to pick up) . I was the VIP waitress when Brandi opened after working at Club M as a server and doing some Management/ bookkeeping. Brandi asked me to open the new exotic concept as I had worked at the prior club but had never worked in a gentleman’s club. Put myself through university with that serving job and have seen enough to write a book ( including the infamous Affleck night I was there). Brandi was a very nice lady and was always kind to me.

Everything I have heard about OG Brandi makes me very sad she is no longer with us and has to watch her legacy go to shit from heaven... </3
Everyone who has had the honour to meet or work with her has had nothing but wonderful things to say about how kind, generous, professional and human she was; bless her soul.

You’re absolutely right. She really was just lovely. Beautiful, elegant and Glamorous with gorgeous clothes and perfect honey highlighted hair. Confident yet soft spoken. She would walk into a room and everyone would stop and look. Men would fall under her spell like tamed kittens. She had this special brand of slim cigarettes the bartender would keep for her. I was in awe of her as I was quite young and she was the image of a gorgeous successful older woman. She stepped in for me many times when people crossed boundaries and would firmly but charismatically correct their behaviour. When first opened the club was a vision of high class and elegance and she set rules on how we dressed, did our hair, treated the dancers, how we presented ourselves- she had high standards but was never unkind or cruel. But as you note she was a tragic figure- through a troubled past herself, a young mom, time in the industry. Her very handsome and naive model much younger fiancé found out from a bartender who was dating one of the escorts about her past and left her and it was heartbreaking. And so on. Someone should write a screenplay on her life I’ve often been tempted.

Thank you so much for sharing this; it really breaks my heart to hear how such a wonderful woman got such a shitty hand dealt to her. To top it off, even with such a tough past, she was never unkind or cruel to anyone </3.
If you write a screenplay, Im 100% super interested and will support in any way I can <3

Since I’ve entered the chat lol- I would have been ticked off this party showed up at my table. Bachelorette parties are the worst. Small orders, separate checks, terrible if any tips. Entitled attitudes. Acting like it’s all a joke and often acting out because they’re uncomfortable there anyway. Not following etiquette like trying to touch dancers or saying super inappropriate things like “how much” ( not for a dance …). Worst table other than certain celebrities who acted like everything should be free and leave no tip. ( like a certain action star who would say I don’t have to pay because I “ have a big schlong” 🤦🏻♀️. As servers we had to tip out the back of the house ( bar backs etc) at least 1% of sales so if we didn’t get tipped we had to pay out of pocket. You often only get 5 tables in your section so if 2 are like this you’re having a very bad night It’s a fun night out for you moms but for the moms working ( many dancers are moms too) it’s a living to pay rent/ university tuition. And the house takes its cut. We’re like contractors. So would I have wanted a table of bachelorettes not ordering told to order or leave my table - yes I would. Ps best tables hands down- blue collar workers. Always tipped 30% and respectful. Couples were great too. Worst- women only tables, celebrities and athletes. Canucks were the worst because they’d make the rookie pay the whole bill and he’d often not pay a tip at all on a $5K bill and I’d still have to tip out.

I have had bad experiences there too, although not that bad. That story is nuts. I’m never going back there.
I’ll edit later with the story.
Edit: Here’s the story. It’s nothing insane, but infuriating at the time.
Years back I went there for my birthday with a group of ten. We paid our cover, got our drinks, then went to sit. We went early specifically to get seating together. Then we found out that they had a new policy (at that time). ALL booth seating was paid. I had never seen anything like that before. The few free seats they had were already taken.
To sit we had to pay $200 for 2 booths. We had already paid our cover and bought drinks, so felt kinda trapped. Do we leave after already spending hundreds? I ended up lying to my friends and said they gave us a two for one deal due to it being my birthday. So I slyly paid $100 out of my own pocket so my friends could sit and we could relax and enjoy ourselves.
Then as the place started to fill up lots of people coming in didn’t want to pay to sit,(once again, this was new), so now there was a crowd of people standing between us and the stage. We couldn’t see anything. I asked the bouncer if they could clear that area so we could watch. No. Could we switch to a different booth? (They we’re mostly empty). No. So we paid hundreds of dollars to see nothing.
We left after 2 drinks.
Stupidly, a couple of months later, me and a couple of drunk buddies decided to go there for the last hour on a Sunday. The bouncer said we had to pay him $20 each to “skip the line”. There was no line.
And that was the last time we went. Before then we would go a few times a year.

My boy got the proper Brandi’s treatment. It’s got a bad rep. Sorry you and your friends had such a bad night.
A lot of venues downtown are like that. Really snobby staff offering poor service. From Brunch to Cocktails, it’s pretty disheartening.

Look up who owns Brandi’s and it makes more sense.
I used to go there in high school and it was a great place to dress up, have cocktails and look at boobs.
Now it’s a trashy mobbed up front for the worst people in Vancouver.

I remember like 10 years ago I worked in the office building across the alley from there. I worked late into the night fairly frequently and was trying to figure out why there were attractive women smoking in the alley when the area is generally dead after office hours. But yeah, I noticed the type of clientele they had and realized they seem to have gone downhill.

Many clubs are owned by them but the staff to run them on a daily basis truly matters. I've had a great time everywhere else so far with nicer staff but for some reason Brandis staff is absurd. A change of attitude and patience woulda made more money than physically removing everyone out to make nothing at all.

Honestly, some of the clubs in Montreal are just flat out enjoyable places to hang out and have a beer with buddies. Hell, in some smaller cities out east, they're the best spot in town.
So much junk gets pushed at a premium because people are starved for entertainment here.

Wanda’s and Chez Paree are well-known, classy, and fun. Lap dances in Montreal are full contact. There are dodgy places as well, sure, but that’s true anywhere. None of them have this “pay to sit down” bullshit. Or “no Asians”. This wealthy pretension and anti-Asian racism seems very Vancouver (not all of Vancouver but a streak that runs through the city).

I wanted to add that my Google review of our experience at Brandi's last night got hidden/deleted; it shows on the account I posted it on, but when I tried to share it with my friends, it couldn't be viewed. Yelp has also flagged my review as a "not recommended review," which basically means it doesnt show in the regular review section. I dont understand how these review platforms would allow such censorship... today is a super sad day after what should have been an awesome night for my bachelorette friend getting married soon.

Well you can't say ALL strip clubs are shady. Because that's not true.
I never read or experience , the manager of the club would throw a temper tantrum and man handling a woman when he 2x their size and she wasn't fighting back. She was screaming from him dragging her across the club and throwing her outside. Most she did that was "bad" was throwing a water bottle......lol like okay guys, I'm sure if one of your girl/guy friend was being grabbed and dragged out like that and you know you didn't do nothing wrong. I'm pretty sure it probably be more then just water bottle being thrown LOL. But hey this is just MY point of view, everyone different.
But yes just brandis a shady place, let keep it at that =)

That’s how they make money. The business hands them cash for removing bad reviews
Obviously it’s packaged as ”the premium edition license lets you tailor the customer reviews show, so you can hilight the best parts of your business”

Doubt that was it - Google and Yelp protect themselves from defamation law suits around mentions of race - it was likely that. Any mention of the word "racist" and your review just gets yanked by the AI.

Wait I don't think that's possible. Idk about yelp but for Google forsure. I have a business and Google doesn't help at all, even if you can prove the review is fake or in bad faith. If you know about a service that does this let me know!

Yelp is an extortion racket. "You get more views by paying premium." Really? I've stopped using yelp since. When reviews and recommendations aren't honest, google works just as well.

Yelp's entire business model is contacting businesses and making them pay to have bad reviews removed. If you refuse they will do the opposite. It's extortion.
Haven't heard of Google doing this though.

Crazy rich Asians, beware and avoid this place at all costs!!!
Just curious, is this meant to be a sarcastic comment or something? Just seems like a very odd thing to say…
Anyways, that sounds like a crappy experience. Insane…

We are not rich. I felt we were being targeted for our race. If thats how they feel about our skin, i was warning the ones who are crazy rich not to give them $

You could have also been flagged on yelp if management/employees from Brandi’s went on to see the reviews. They may have made a complaint. Once you’re flagged and a complaint is sent to Yelp, they’ll immediately take your review down for further investigation. It’s ridiculous. But at least you have outlets like Reddit to tell your story.

It was insane; however, I did it specifically in hopes of setting the vibe that we were there to spend money and that this scenario, or something similar wouldnt happen, but it still did... =(

Money can't "always" buy politeness, especially it seems at Brandi's Edited
P.S. politeness shouldn't require money to be paid.

Money absolutely usually does buy politeness and good service. What these folks experienced certainly isn't the norm at most establishments

Sounds like a stupid business decision in a city where 40% of the customers and visitors are Asian.

Sorry you had to experience the racism personally. I’ve hear stories from not allowing Asians in due to wearing sneakers to full physical abuse inside the club.

The reviews were awful in which most got deleted. But it's better to experience it yourself as reviews can be different for everybody and sure thing - you confirmed it by going. Disappointed in what Brandis has become. I didn't like what I saw the other week too.

I haven't been for a while, but I went a few years back with a friend. I was wearing sweat pants, but they let me in anyway regardless of dress code (passed bouncers, doorman etc).
When I got upstairs, a bouncer tried to extort me for money to stay, said I lied to get in. Whatever that fucking means, like "no these aren't sweats they are dress pants". Fucking tool. I finished my drink, didn't pay him a penny and left, will never go back.

The Google reviews are insane. Especially if you read the ones that the owner responded too. It proves he is who he is.

You never know. Media wants eyeballs to sell ads, and racism and strippers are two topics that people are interested in.
On the other hand the alleged gang ownership angle might make some reporters not want to get involved.

Sure, if an assault happened, especially with a racist angle, but I'd bet the investigator finds that the camera recordings have all been overwritten, the staff all say nothing happened, and his Captain says there are reasons no further investigations should be made, move on to the next case please.

I went with my friends once because one of them was curious how strip clubs were like, and it was horrible- similarly terrible staff treatment. My friend just ended up being dumbfounded as to why people pay for strip clubs. Tried to tell him that the one i went to in the states was much better but yeah.

Yup I also went once, just to be in the place WITHOUT a table is $80 basically between cover and coat check and the forced drink rule. Their drinks are insanely overpriced and also poorly made. Awful place.

2015, so admittedly a while ago. We were not allowed to sit anywhere because we didn’t want to pay for it. Got to see 1 dance while we drank our drinks and then were basically asked to leave if we weren’t going to drop hundreds on a table or private dance.

I've been a few times but once in 2015 (was much cheaper than you noted) the bartender got super pissed I accidentally tipped him 1 cent when I admitted it basically instantly because he was alright.
