1. The Webmaster Club will meet on Thursday after school. 7th and 8th
graders should meet in the cafeteria at dismissal time. Any returning
6th graders should meet in the Computer Lab.
2. There will be a wrestling meeting on Thursday the 19th in room
114. If you have any questions please see coach Tarsio. You will
take the late bus home.
3. Here's your chance if you were absent, forgot picture money, need
a retake or didn't buy pictures. The date is this Friday, Nov. 20th.
For retakes be sure to return your original pictures to the
photographer. To purchase new pictures, pick up a flyer in the main
office or at the 7th grade window.
4. Boys and girls basketball informational meeting will be after
school on Thursday, Nov. 19th. Meet in the cafeteria after school.
You can take the late bus home. Reminder, you need a school sports
physical to try out.
5. Student Gov't will meet today after school. Please meet Ms. Tann
in the cafeteria.
6. The PTA will begin collecting the 8th graders baby pictures for
the yearbook. Bring in your baby photo with your name on the back to
your 1st period teacher. We will do our best to have all photos
returned. We're looking for a great turnout so get your pictures in by
December 1st.
7. Van Wyck Apparel Sale
Van Wyck Apparel Sale will run through Friday, November 20th! Order
forms went home yesterday with students - if you have not received one
extras are available in the main office. Various items are available
in both royal blue with white print and the gold with navy print.
Items will be back in time to make them great holiday gifts! Any
questions, please call Carmella at 440-6550.
8. The QSP fundraisers were distributed. If you did not pick up your
order, your next opportunity will be on December 2nd beginning at
6:30pm through the end of the PTA meeting. This will be the final time
for pick-up, please mark your calendars.
9. *Gifted program fall deadline nears*
November 30 is the fall deadline to enroll a bright 2nd-8th grade
student into the annual academic Talent Search sponsored by The Johns
Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY). In CTY's
national program, 2nd-8th graders take special tests, offered
locally, that let families see a child's math and verbal talents. The
tests can also qualify a child for CTY's summer or online courses for
academically talented young people. For over 30 years, CTY has tested
over 1.5million bright young people. Financial aid is available for
children eligible for the free- and reduced-price lunch program.

10. Attention all 7th and 8th grade girls interested in trying out
for cheerleading for the basketball season. You must attend the
informational meeting on Thursday, Nov. 19th. It will be held from 3
to 3:45 and you can take the late bus home. Any questions, see Mrs.

11. Dear Parents,
Guidance is starting a lunch group for those students who are new to
Van Wyck. If your child is new to this building and you would like
them to join a group that would help them feel more comfortable at
their new school, meet and make new friends, and have a safe place to
share their excitement and/or apprehensions about their new

12. HELP WANTED -- HELP HOMELESS DOGS AND CATS
Bring donations to Rm. 124 during Homeroom. Homerooms with the most
items will win a breakfast break. The following items are needed: cat
food, dog food, toys, treats, clean blankets and towels, and cat
litter. Animal Rescue Foundation, DCSPCA and the students in Rm. 124
thank you.

2010. With the holiday season coming, I am sure this time we will beat
