SoI've seen a lot of posts where someone asks about importing the config from the older router to the newer router and we all know this is a no-no. The best suggestion I have is to take the old Router and New Router and set them side by side. Plug a laptop into the new Router and set your network IP to be on the same network as the new modem and log on to it. Using a Web Browser, change the IP address of the new router to be on the same network as the old modem (You will change the IP of the new modem after you complete all of these steps). You can now disconnect the new router from your laptop and plug the new one into a switch on your network. Now that this has been accomplished, go to a web browser and connect to the Old Router and then open another web browser and connect to your New Router. Position the browsers side by side (it is recommended to have two screens on your computer/laptop so you can put one browser on one screen and the other browser on the opposite screen). Now that you can see both routers, go to each screen setting and copy / paste what you can from the old Router to the New one. Select the same settings. There may be a thing or two that you cannot to until you actually replace the old Router with the New Router. If you encounter anything, just document that. I'm sure it will not be much if anything but the main IP address. This is also a good time to correct some names of equipment you have done port forwarding to a name you prefer better without any equipment going down while you are configuring the new router. Once you are done, you can change the IP address of your Old Router (in case you want to connect to it later) and document that IP address on the Old Router. Unplug the old Router and power it off). Change the IP address of the New Router to the original IP of the Old Router and you everything should work as expected. I believe this is better than screen prints from your old Router and a lot of documentation because if you missed something, you would have to trouble shoot and that is what we are trying to avoid.

I prefer to set a incoming new router off line from anything, Just a PC and get it configured, though I mostly don't make tons of changes, I just set up the router for minimal configuration, WIFI SSID name and channels. Change the default IP address pool size to some thing smaller for my needs. Once the incoming router is ready, I reboot the ISP modem, connect up any network LAN cables from the old router to the new router, turn ON the new router and place it in the old routers position. Once the new router is online and ready, turn OFF the old router and all my WIFI devices migrate to the new router seamlessly. Usually by the time all that's done, the ISP modem is back to ready and internet services is ready as well.

Glad you got it working. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Enjoy.

Hi, I bought a used nighthawk ax4 ax3000 model rax35 and I can't configure it no matter what. When trying on the app, no matter how many times I start from the beginning and reset everything including a factory reset of the router, my phone always says "IP Configuration Failure." So because I can't connect to the router I can't config. it.

It appears to connect on my laptop, but it doesn't show it's connected. It just shows secured, no internet and it just shows the globe in my task bar or whatever on the bottom right of windows 10, instead of the wifi symbol it would normally show when there's signal. And no matter how many times I clear my browser it just keeps saying "this site refused to connect."

The best option is to connect to the router with an Ethernet cable connected to a computer and use a web browser for setup and configuration. The second best option is to connect to the router via Wi-Fi with a computer after you have done a full default reset using the recessed reset button on the back.

Have you downloaded the user manual for your RAX35? Go to the downloads section at the top of this page, feed in your RAX35 model number and you can download the manual, the quick start guide, and any firmware updates you need.

Thanks for your replies guys. I was able to get it last night. Just like every other time I do something with Tech. Stuff just randomly decides to work for some reason after randomly not working for some reason. Complete story of my life. If you only knew.

Long story short, I had done a hard reset multiple times before starting just in case. No idea why I couldn't connect, but after attending some classes on assigning static IP's over at trusty ol' YouTube University I was able to connect, config and get everything back to normal with some trial and error.

For some reason I had to assign a static IP on my phone and change the last three numbers .128 to .157 and then back again after forgetting the network each time. Then after doing the same on my PC and trying to mess with the settings in the admin panel from my PC I screwed up the config and lost all internet. So I did another hard reset and after a little trial and error with the app it worked as it should the first time.

I'll never do this again without just hooking a cable directly into the router and using the admin panel on my laptop. Lesson learned. I just really didn't want to cuz I would have had to bother some elderly in-laws to do it. I was just trying to set everything up for my uncle who wanted to hook into their internet a couple hundred feet away and it turned into a nightmare.

I watched a few different ones like that to finally figure it out. But like I said, it seemed that I only needed to change it, then forget the network then change it back and forget the network again and it worked. Or some variation of that. I'm not 100% sure. I'm sure someone smart can chime in and explain what happened and what's the proper thing to do for anyone in the future.

The version is V1.0.1.24_1.0.18. I did see the AP node was on. I'll turn it off and see if that fixes the issue and reboot the router. That must be a default setting on the router with the AP mode on.

Also, when I rebooted the router it was a normal reboot not default settings. The other thing I noticed is a few times the router was rebooted somehow by loss of power or the os decided to reboot and it came back wth the default settings.

Thank you for the update. The device is set to router mode by default and not in AP mode. It is possible that it is setting itself up in AP mode during boot up since it is detecting that it is within the same IP range as the your other router. You can try configuring the device's IP first before connecting it to your other router.

Thanks for following up. I tried to change the ap mode but I can't find where to in the GUI. It appears it's finding another router and automatically turning on ap mode. I can see in the wireless configuration it's on but I can't find where to turn it off

I actually have an internet connection with these configurations, but the question is, when I'm connected to Huawei Modem Router via Wifi, then I will transfer to another location and get the signal of orbi, will I get disconnected and reconnects again?

Huawei: (Bridged Mode) (for practical purposes, all it will do is act as an adapter to connect your Orbi router to the satellite dish, converting from what I assume is a coaxial cable coming indoors from the dish, to an ethernet cable to go to the Orbi router, and it will not handle any routing functions at all, and may not even have an IP address)

One of them MUST be enabled as a router. Ideally, exactly one of them. Two MAY work, but will probably give you a lot of trouble, and zero definitely will NOT work (bridge mode and access point mode are basically the same, except by different names, and it will not work if both the Huawei and Orbi are in bridge mode/access point mode).

Whichever device is in router mode should have DHCP enabled. This will probably be the default anyway, since your Huawei in bridge mode will probably disable the DHCP feature on the Huawei, and putting the Orbi in access point mode will disable the DHCP feature on the Orbi.

As for not being able to run a cable from the Orbi router to the Orbi satellite, do you not already have the Orbi router next to your Huawei modem? Or are you already running a long cable from the Huawei to the Orbi router as it is? Perhaps you should consider putting the Orbi router next to the Huawei modem, putting the Huawei in bridge mode (scenario 2 above), and then running the cable from the Orbi router to the Orb satellite? I assume your other two Orbi satellites are able to connect wirelessly to the Orbi router? If you enable daisy chain, it's also possible to connect one Orbi satellite to another Orbi satellite (I think either over wifi or ethernet cable, though I'm not certain), which may help you reach the one Orbi satellite that's too far away from the Orbi router to connect wirelessly.
