For FRP piping systems, support spacing is closer than that of steel piping, yet farther apart than supports for thermoplastic piping. Refer to the specific technical bulletin of each piping system for recommended support spacing, or contact RPS Engineering for allowable support spans to ensure an adequate number of pipe supports are supplied.
In general, pipe supports for FRP piping will be wider and more robust than for metallic pipe in order to prevent points loads and keep the FRP pipe round. All supports (except flange supports) are lined with rubber to prevent chafing of the FRP. Refer to the RPS Design Manual for tips on choosing the right style of support, and for placement of supports away from elbows and buildups, and at heavy equipment such as valves.
A complete line of standard carbon steel supports suitable for our FRP and dual laminate piping is included in the RPS Pipe Supports Catalog. Custom-designed supports are also available to suit particular project needs, as required.
Thermoplastic isolators (TPI) provide optimum support and eliminate pipe contact with the supporting steel. FRP wear pads are used as corrosion protection on uninsulated pipes and can be secured to FRP pipes to provide an extra layer of pipe and thereby extend the life of the pipe.

The half-round shape of I-Rod repels moisture and protects the pipe coating by minimizing the contact point against round pipe. I-Rod material is water-shedding and exceptionally strong, so it can support the pipe without deforming or creeping over time.
I-Rod material is extremely durable and can support enormous amounts of weight. While conducting offshore inspections, our technicians routinely discover imitations of I-Rod that have broken or crushed, leaving pipes dangerously unprotected. Usually, these are low-grade imitations, but some use high-quality materials (Delrin and Teflon for example) with material properties unsuited for this application.
