So did I ! (see my QRZ page or https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tZW57EhZfZ3eqNkW7Pk9gK9_M1XhhIoo/view?usp=drive_link).
I see these differences between David's setup and mine:
- The main difference... David's approach requires two interface cables, one of which is not a standard USB cable. My setup uses a single standard USB cable (for full rig control, FSK, spectrum display, etc.)
- David's document is very detailed and clearly written, and it is 31 pages. I am not as detailed, but I still needed ten pages.
- My setup requires one additional software app (VSPE), which can be used for free, although the author asks for payment.
- David uses EXTFSK64, where I use the 32-bit version, EXTFSK, which has worked FB on a Win 11 Home Ed 64-bit PC.
- David covers adding 2Tone, which I did not document. However, it's easy to do, and I recommend doing this because 2Tone often seems to decode better for me compared to MMTTY. David also set 2Tone to play through computer speakers. I choose to use the radio's monitor option.
The use of VSPE to eliminate the need for a second interface cable is not new. For me, it has worked very well and seems to be as reliable as I would expect a setup using a dedicated FSK cable would be. But YMMV. So with these two different ways to do things people can choose which they prefer.
