Hi All Valley Hams,

I have been looking for some aluminum U-Channel to finish a higher power 23-cm amplifier I am working on for EME.
I am looking for the base of the U-channel to be 1.5" and the legs to be 1" with a wall thickness around 0.125 "

Base size could vary from 1.5" to 2 " and leg dimension could vary from 0.5" to 1.5" and aluminum thickness could be from 0.1 to 0.25"
I am using it to form a box on top of a heat sink the I have two 600 watt SSPA mounted to.
The heat sink is 14" X 10.5" so I would need about 49" if everything goes well to do the four sides.

I have used this construction method before on smaller amplifiers with great success.

Around Staunton, Harrisonburg, Waynesboro area I have not found the aluminum U-channel with the proper size for this project.

If anyone knows or has some Aluminum U-channel for sale locally, please contact me directly!

If not, I will have to go on line and place an order.
Price on line is not too bad but shipping cost is not good.

A few years ago I had no trouble getting stock of aluminum square tubing and U-channel from several local hardware stores, but not any more.
Most of the hardware stores has stock of the 3/4" base U-channel, but nothing close to 1.5" base.

Best Wishes & 73,
Cowles, K4EME

Hello Cowles, I have two options that might work in my box of scrap aluminum/heat sinks.  On is a u-channel 3/4" legs and 1-3/4" width.

The second option is actual heat-sink material with seven fins.  Fins are 1-1/4" high and the width is about 2-1/4".

I'm not sure pictures work here but I'll send you a picture off-list to see what they look like.  I'm a few miles west of Harrisonburg but we can probably find a way to get them to you in the coming days.

I have 1296 capabilities and will be interested to hear more about your amplifier project.
