Subject: [Wsjt-x-improved-community] WSJT-X_IMPROVED 2.7.1-devel 250106-RC8 available for download

Dear WSJT-X_IMPROVED Users,

WSJT-X_IMPROVED 2.7.1-devel 250106-RC8 is available for download. Release Candidate 8 officially introduces for both WSJT-X and wsjt-x_improved the new Message System previously under development. It allows structured plain text messages to be sent to your QSO partner, requesting a QSY to another frequency or submode, e.g during contests.

Important note: Due to the support of 4-digit frequency information in FM QSY requests, RC8 is not (fully) compatible with the previous test versions. Users of these should therefore upgrade to 250106-RC8 as soon as possible.

Otherwise, WSJT-X 2.7.0-rc8 is primarily a bug-fix release. It introduces the bug fixes and detail improvements to SuperFox mode that you already received with the well-functional “241014-RC7” version of wsjt-x_improved.

However, wsjt-x_improved 2.7.1-devel 250106-RC8 already brings you further enhancements, so there are the following changes compared to 241014-RC7:
  • Introduction of the new WSJT-X Message System. It can be used to invite your QSO partner to QSY to another frequency or mode (e.g. during contests), or to send some general short messages. It consists of the Message Creator and the QSY Monitor. Received messages are displayed as popups. Read the new chapter 8 of the User Guide for more information.
  • A new alert category “Message received” has been added, which optionally announces “Message” when a message has arrived via the new message system.
  • Fixed a long-standing flaw on macOS that caused some audible alerts to not play correctly.
  • More intuitive navigation when WSJT-X is used together with QMAP. A single click in Active Stations window now selects a station to be called; a double-click also activates Enable Tx.
  • Added a download dialog for Hamlib Update and CALL3.TXT.
  • Avoided a potential program crash when Astronomical data window is not open.
  • Protection against some rare but possible bounds errors.
  • In WSJT-X and QMAP, the “Monitor” button now turns cyan when audio files are to be saved. This is intended to prevent large amounts of data from accumulating unnoticed.
  • Auto QSY (e.g. "CQ 104 A1BCD") is no longer allowed for FT8 messages, because clicking on it had led to bad mistakes with some inexperienced OMs.
  • It is now ensured that a QSO is logged when “MSK 144/Q65: Tx until 73 is received” is checked and a message with “73” is received.
  • Fixed an inconsistency with the Tx even/1st checkbox when switching from SuperHound mode to any other mode.
  • The Help menu now provides a hyperlink to the file "How_to_deal_with_rig_control_errors.pdf".
  • Update to Hamlib_4.6_2024-12-04_SHA=be045d.

As always, WSJT-X_IMPROVED 2.7.1-devel 250106-RC8 can be downloaded from SourceForge. Direct links for the 64-bit Windows installers are as follows:
Enjoy the new version!
