160 meter antenna with the FCP (Folded Counter-Poise). Instead of laying
out radials in/on ground, put up 2 of these about 8 feet or so above ground.

Here is a great presentation by K2AV about the FCP.

I used a vertical loop strung among the various trees in my yard for some years but for the most part it seemed to do no more than warm the grass, whether fed in a corner, on the side or the bottom.

Then I came across K2AV’s folded counterpoise (FCP).  It takes some work to build it given the elevated folded-radials are run through drilled 8-inch lengths of PVC (for spacing, separation).  The “L” portion goes into a tulip poplar about 60 feet, then over the house toward the ground.  The two folded radials stretch horizontally about 33 feet in each direction, if I recall correctly, and they are about 8 feet above ground.  The matching/isolation box is specified in the K2AV article.  www.k2av.com

The antenna works vastly better than the loop, though its bandwidth limitation restricts me to below 1850 kHz.
