We still have a few key volunteer positions to fill for the Grindstone Trail Running Festival, taking place September 19–21. As I’ve said before, you are truly instrumental in keeping our runners safe—we could not operate this event without you.

 

Grindstone is one of the largest ultramarathons in the United States and, without question, one of the most challenging to communicate across. The course covers remote terrain with very limited cell coverage, which makes our volunteers even more critical to the event’s success.

 

I’ve streamlined the signup sheet by removing certain time slots where cell coverage is adequate or runner density will be lower. This means the open shifts are the most essential ones for runner safety and race communication.

 

Why it matters:

 

Runners travel from every U.S. state and over 30 countries—many experiencing Virginia for the first time.

 

Over 90% of participants come from out of state, bringing millions of dollars in economic impact to Central Virginia.

 

Your role directly contributes to the safety, success, and unforgettable experience of these athletes.

I might be able to help with net control. My math showed a 36 hour operation in 3 shifts. I just can't do 12 hours. But, Sat evening and night I could operate some.

Also – There will be a FULL RV this year for Command Center and NET Control.  Climate Controlled, Bunk beds, comfortable seating, etc…  This is the spot to be at😊  we have 2 right now, and still looking for a 3^rd to rotate during the weekend.
