I received a message from a ham who is looking at moving
into the valley, maybe the lower valley near Salem, VA, and
he was asking about the Quiet Zone and any amateur ops
requirements about notifying them. Who would be the most
knowledgable person to direct him to?

  Thanks in advance.

Roanoke and Salem aren't in it, but Waynesboro and Staunton are.  From what I understand Amateur radio isn't restricted by it, just commercial radio.

I know the NRQZ has a patrol unit they use to locate distributive transmitters! Tho the FCC can only impose a 50 dollar fine for intentional violators. The most restrictive thing is cellular use within a 20 mile radius of the observatory.

“Interesting fact that 99.5 percent of the quiet zone is eligible for star-link services over WiFi networks”!
