Here are some links to check out. The gist is that Viridian may offer some per cent "green" energy but definately NOT at a savings. Electric prices are really low right now due to the use of fracked

natural gas for fuel. So by comparison "green" energy is mucho expensive. And as someone has pointed out the money is in the pyramid with distibuters paying up front to play. This quote below is from a Viridian blog:

"You can enroll and become a Viridian Energy distributor for $399 one-time payment. There are also lower packages for as little as $99. When you enroll 15 new distributors in 90 days you can get a fast start bonus of $300. You get commissions for customer sales only."

I also think that, for example, National Grid allows customers to choose a fixed or variable rate per kilowatt hour and also allows customers to sign up for Green Up, wherein some or ALL of your energy is from renewable energy companies. According to Elliot's link (I can't vouch for its accuracy), but it claims that Viridian customers always pay on a variable rate. Recall all those variable rate mortgages in the 1980's when prime went north of 15%? A ton of pain for people who took all those low teaser rates. I always counseled my clients to stay away from variable unless they planned on moving in a few years and were comfortable with the risk of rising rates and believed the housing market was stable. Also, see 2008.

Now I'm not endorsing National Grid, but their web site does provide interesting information. I should have looked at it sooner. The downside is no money for VFR. The up side is you can get options and not just a feel good pitch. What Elliot has pointed out is that Viridian, like most if not all multi level marketing, is about making money by signing people up, not so much as the result of the quality of the product.

It's alright if the Board made a mistake. That's life. It's another issue if leaders can't look closely and change course. Think Vietnam. Think Iraq. Think all the political issues that cause so much pain in this country and which VFR tries to educate listeners. An overstatement, but the principal is the same.

And that's why I go with my own research and my gut rather than a salesman from the company I'm questioning. Though I did spend quite a bit of time on the Viridian website, so I haven't been arguing in ignorance as has been suggested on more than one occasion.
