Hello folks,

Are you ready for our April cafe next Monday? I apologize for the delay in making this announcement, and for things having not quite been the same with our Café for the past several months. Part of it was because I was stuck in India dealing with immigration red-tape after having had to rush back due to my mother's passing in January. I just got back to Fresno a couple of weeks ago and am catching up with things. I want to thank Scott Hatfield for stepping into the breach last month and sharing his own experience as a science teacher at the March Café - and also those of you who have been turning up for the meetings despite our lapses in communication. We appreciate all of your support and will strive to do better.

This month, we welcome Dr. Jai Ranganathan from Santa Barbara. Dr. Ranganathan got his Ph.D. from Stanford University studying ecology with Prof. Paul Ehrlich's group, and has since gone into science writing and communication. He writes for Miller-McCune (see http://www.miller-mccune.com/category/curiouser/), and is based in Santa Barbara at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS). Here then are the details of the event:

Title: Social media is turning science upside down: the Internet and the future of research.
Speaker:  Dr. Jai Ranganathan
Venue: Landmark Restaurant in the Tower District
Date: Monday, 9 April 2012
Time: 7:00-8:30 PM, Dinner will be available from 6:30PM onwards, as usual.
Note once again that the Café presentation is free to the public; purchasing food and beverages is not required, but encouraged to support this local restaurant which has been so supportive of us.

With apologies for another rather late notice, I do hope you will be able to join us on Monday! And please share this invitation with anyone else who might be interested.

yours,

Madhu
