Hello friends,

I write to you to share word of an exciting new adventure from Central Valley Café Scientifique, the monthly public science conversation I have been organizing for some years now in Fresno. Last fall, a producer from 88.1FM KFCF, the local Pacifica affiliated community radio station, invited me to develop a new radio show affiliated with our Café. After several months of planning and preparation, we recorded a pilot episode a few weeks ago, and the station has agreed to broadcast it on a monthly schedule.

The first episode of “Science: A Candle In The Dark” will air tomorrow (Feb 24) afternoon at 3:30 PM, on 88.1FM. Here is a brief overview of / introduction to the show:

You can tune in if you happen to be near a radio at 3:30 this afternoon, or listen to the live stream via the KFCF website:

The pilot episode features an interview with Fresno State physicist Doug Singleton.

The regular time slot for the show will be at 3:30 PM on the last tuesday of each month - i.e., a week before the next Café talk on the following Monday. Starting with the next episode, in March, we plan to have the next Café presenter be the featured guest. While centered around the interview, the show will start with a brief news segment covering exciting recent discoveries or issues in science, and end with a short essay / op-ed segment authored and read out by a guest contributor.

We will be podcasting the show via the Café website, so keep an eye on that - I will also let you know when it is up. I hope you will tune in and listen when you get the chance, and help me get the word out about this new monthly science show produced locally!

Wish me luck on this new radio adventure, and let’s make this candle burn brighter throughout the valley.

Madhu
