Chestnut Hill Hospital Closing Maternity

As you may know, Chestnut Hill Hospital will close their OB Unit on
November 4, 2008. They will be the 15th hospital in 11 years to end
maternity care in the Phildelphia area, leaving Northeast and
Northwest Philadelphia families with limited birthing options.

Valley Birthplace will continue to offer Birth Center and Home Births
as well as GYN care. We are working to obtain privileges at another
hospital so that we can continue to offer a Hospital Birth option in
the future.

Unfortunately, none of our local hospitals allow midwives privileges
and midwives are forced to look outside the area. Childbearing
families no longer have a choice of provider in their own community
and must travel potentially unsafe distances to give birth in a
hospital with a midwife.
