 You are cordially invited to the  First Book Review Meeting on Tuesday, the 25th February 2014 under the auspices of Tamizh Puthaka Nanbargal, a new initiative from Shri R.T.Chari and his family Trust Ramu Endowment supported by Tag Group of Companies.

 

The idea is to introduce new Tamizh books of living authors and present them before the Tamizh reading public and to encourage and promote exclusively Tamizh book-reading habit among those interested in Tamizh literature.

 

The first event of Tamizh Puthaka Nanbargal, will be inaugurated by well known author and playwright Sri Indira Parthasarathy

A note about the reviewers of the month:

 

Dr. Tiruppur Krishnan, the veteran journalist is currently the Editor of much respected monthly ‘Amudhasurabi’.  Dr. Krishnan has over three decades of journalistic experience, having served well known writer Na. Parthasarathy’s ‘Deepam’, the renowned Tamizh daily ‘Dinamani’ and for a short span in ‘Chennai Online’.  He is a prolific writer and has authored several books on glimpses of Tamizh writers and scholars, ‘Nala Charitham’ ‘Aravinda Amudam’, and ‘Sri Annai’.  His latest book ‘Kaatrin Kural’ on Apoorva Ramayanam is a refreshingly new study on Ramayana.  Tiruppur Krishnan is an outstanding orator on literary and religious subjects and is a much sought after speaker in many venues.

 

Sri Vadhoolan (E. Lakshmanan) is a retired banker, having served Canara Bank for over three decades in various capacities at different locations.  He began writing short stories in the children’s magazine ‘Kannan’ and graduated to writing in several Tamil periodicals.  His books on the aspects of banking and share market investments is meant for laymen and his other books on etiquettes and maintaining cordial family relationships are simple guides to everyone.  His latest book on ‘Learn to Enjoy Carnatic Music’ is a best seller.  ‘Vadhoolan’ is an ardent fan of Madurai Mani Iyer and his current favourite is Sanjay Subramanian.   His favourite authors include Thi. Janakiraman, Jayakanthan, Sundara Ramasamy, Ashokamitran, A. Muthulingam and Indira Parthasarathy. 

 

The author of ‘Nanbanin Thanthai’, Sri Ashokamitran is a very popular writer in Tamizh and English and many of his short stories and novels have been translated into English and other Indian and foreign languages.  He served the Gemini Studios for a short span and took to writing fiction and non-fiction for his livelihood.   His novels ’18avathu Atchak Kodu’ (18th Parallel),

‘Karaintha Nizhalgal’ and ‘Thanneer’ are outstanding work of fiction and his ‘Karaintha Nizhalgal’ has had the unique distinction of being translated by two translators, one titled ‘Shoot At Sight’ by Albert B. Franklin former U.S. Consul General in Chennai and the other ‘Star Crossed’ by Sri V. Ramnarayan, editor-in-chief, SRUTI.  Ashokamitran has received numerous awards in his writing career notable among them is the prestigious Sahitya Academy Award in 1996 for a collection of his short stories titled ‘Appavin Sinehitar’.

 

Tamizh Puthaka Nanbargal takes pride in beginning its literary journey with its monthly review events with the most respected writer in contemporary Tamizh literature, Sri Ashokamitran.

 

We are proud that the event is inaugurated by none other than the senior most author Sri Indira Parthasarathy, the doyen of modern Tamizh literature, who has been recognized with the awards by the country’s two prestigious institutions – Sangeet Nataka Academy and Sahitya Academy.  He is well known for his satirical novels on contemporary politics and daringly different plays. His novels ‘Yesuvin Thozhargal’ and ‘Krishna Krishna’ are thought provoking literary works and have been translated into English.     Many of his short stories have been translated into different Indian and foreign languages.

TAG Corporation, through its TAG group of companies and their family trust Ramu Endowments has been  conducting  monthly heritage lectures  by distinguished scholars and achievers, highlighting various facets of South India’s pride in its rich heritage, be it science, history, philosophy, religion, architecture, culture, literature, drama, cinema, music and the arts.
