Forwork, our primary font is Interstate OTF (Regular, Bold, Black, Light, Italic). I work in a mac environment (iMac 27" 5k, macOS High Sierra, Adobe CC 2018), and have the font family installed in Font Book. The family works fine in Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects. However, InDesign is fussy. Sometimes I can use it fine with no issues. Other times, "Bold" just won't be in my list of usable fonts.

Have you tried placing the font in the User font folder which can be found through Macintosh HD>User>Home>Library>Fonts? On many Macs the Home folder library is hidden. To get to it: Launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the folder called Fonts. See screen shot:

try suitcase fusion 30 day free trial and drop the font in there, if it does not install, there is something wrong with it. That is the difference between a professional font manager and the basic stuff that comes with mac. Suitcase fusion will not let you put something bad in it. Font doctor ( which comes with suitcase fusion) would help you fix the font.

I Have the same problem, on all fonts in Suitcase Fusion. When i forgot to start up Fusion before Indesign, i have to close InDesign et reopen the App to use my font. And its a recent problem, only InDesign had change, Suitcase is the same, and no system update. So, what is the problem with Adobe and Suitcase ?

TypeKit also conflicts with fonts I own. For example, I purchased some weights of Calluna and installed other weights through TK. ID tells me the ones I purchased are missing. I assume that's TK's doing. I love ID but sometimes--!

have been havign the same problem off and on typekit fotns are not avaialble . Turns out that I ahd been logged out of my Adobe accoutn for soem unkonw reason - when I logged back in - typekit fonts were teher

Actually, that seemed to work only once - next time I had the same problem - have many books with many files/chapters[more than 300]- what a pain to go in and repoint the fonts each time - In my case I had montserrat OTF [installed form website] and the Montserrat from Typekit - seems that Typekit takes over and cannot find the OTF font. I had placed the font in all possible ID folders, etc but nada- Finally went to my windows fonts folder and deleted the Typekit duplicate fonts - then laboriously repointed all fonts again - but thankfully for the last time.

I have a similar problem. Many fonts that I load and activate in both suitcase 12.1 and font book won't show in In Design CC, yet they show in all other programs and used to show perfectly in CS6 (without having to restart in design). I waste so much time trying to get fonts to work in CC. Something really needs to be done about it. We shouldn't have to have 2 copies of the same font on our machines for them to work in In Design. If we put them in the In Design fonts folder, they won't work anywhere else, only in In Design, so we are having to have 2 copies of all our fonts. Such a waste of space and time. Adobe please figure this out for the next update of In Design CC.

I've tried the solutions offered, but the particular fonts or weights of fonts that InDesign loses aren't TypeKit, aren't managed by anything. They're just Windows installed OpenType fonts. It's a huge PITA.

my workaround - package the files [making sure you have all correct fonts ]- this creates a font folder [and links folder] then open the file from the package - it will always use the fonts in the fonts folder

I have a similar, though different, font problem. I'm using lots of Adobe fonts, and about half the time when I start up InDesign, the fonts aren't available and I get the missing fonts error. I have to close all Adobe apps and reopen them, sometimes multiple times, for the fonts to actually load. This is despite the fact that Creative Cloud always shows them installed and active. Then it's fine until the next reboot. This is very annoying and time-consuming. Windows 11

Thank you for posting this!!!! I've been going crazy for weeks because nothing was working, even tried 2 different font management programs and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't show system active fonts... I must have accidentally clicked on that filter before.

I've had trouble with Helvetica Neue going missing from InDesign several times. I just clicked on the dropdown button on the list of fonts and it looked like there was a filter turned on. I'm not even sure what filter it was, I just turned it off and suddenly I could find Helvetica Neue again. Thanks for sharing this suggestion.

"The document [filename] uses fonts that are either currently unavailable on your computer or no longer supported in InDesign. Closing the dialog box will substitute the missing fonts with the default font."

Install the missing fonts in InDesign or InCopy. If the fonts are already installed, and you use a font management utility, make sure that the fonts are activated. If you use a font management utility, then consult the documentation included with the utility for instructions.

InDesign and InCopy support only installed font styles. Some fonts, such as Critter, don't include bold or italic styles. In such cases, select the plain version of the font in InDesign or InCopy. Ensure that the font style (for example, Tekton Bold, Optima Oblique) is installed or change the font style to the one available in InDesign or InCopy.

Make sure that the font appears in another application to verify that the font is installed correctly. If the font doesn't appear in another application, reinstall the font. After you install a font, it is sometimes necessary to restart the computer for the font to become available.

InDesign and InCopy check for missing fonts when opening files or importing text or graphics. If the application cannot locate a font, it returns an alert and lists the font in the Missing section of the Font menu. By default, InDesign and InCopy highlight all text with a substituted pink font.

Getting creative with fonts is one of the most fun and rewarding aspects of using InDesign, but every once in a while you encounter font-related problems that make you want to give up your typographic efforts and set everything back to Minion Pro.

Firstly, look for alternative places from which to download the font file. Did you download it from a questionable website? Take a look on Google to see if you can find any alternative places to download the font. You might find that just the original version of the font that you installed was corrupt.

Get creative with the modern Zenzero sans serif font. This font download comes with two OpenType font variations, Regular and Round. It also includes a number of useful ligatures. Zenzero also offers extensive multilingual support so audiences around the world can enjoy this font.

I have noticed a new issue withing the past couple of days with fonts and InDesign 2022 17.2 on multiple Macs in my prepress department. We use Suitcase for font management and load fonts on a job-by-job basis. When the fonts are activated in Suitcase, they are available to Illustrator, Photoshop and all Microsoft applications, but not to InDesign. The loaded fonts will not show up in the InDesign font menu and upon document open, they come up as missing.

In an attempt to work around this, I deactivated the fonts in Suitcase so that InDesign would use the Document Fonts. This did not work, so I tried loading them into Font Book and they still are not available.

I am having this same problem. I'm on macOS Big Sur version 11.6.5 using Suitcase Fusion version 22.0.4, where the fonts have been added in a Set and are activated permanently (green dot). They are not showing up in the list of fonts in InDesign 2022 verion17.4. These are fonts that were working about 3 months ago in an older version of Suitcase, in InDesign CS6, on macOS Mojave. Before reading the OP's comment, I had not checked the font availability in other apps, but have checked Illustrator just now, and indeed, the fonts are available there. Hopefully someone with a solutions sees this issue soon. My project deadline is tomorrow and I'm stuck...

We are sorry for the trouble. We are able to replicate the issue at our end with multiple fonts on v17.2 & in some instances, on v17.1 as well. We have logged a bug a with the product team last week, and they are currently investigating the issue on a priority.

We are sorry about this. As I have mentioned above, the product team was able to replicate the issue, and they are currently working on a fix. As of now, there is no ETA when the fix will be released, but a hotfix will roll out soon. Please stay tuned for the updates.

I did not have any issues with fonts loading until updating to the most recent version of InDesign. Now I have an entire catalog's worth of InDesign documents that are essentially corrupted due to InDesign not being capable of reading fonts that have been on my machine for years. This is incredibly frustrating.

17.2.1 Still does not work as of 5/12/2022. I had to roll back to earlier version. Adobe really needs to fix this issue immediately. I can't continually submit work with missing fonts and replacing them everytime I open up a document! We pay for usage of programs THAT WORK! Adobe should give a credit back to those who have indesign until they fix it!

I opened the exact same file in InDesign v16.4 and was prompted to convert it because it's a v17.2.1 file. I OKed the conversion and when that was complete, the file opened and the fonts are no longer missing.

As of May 26th, this issue is still not fixed and has left me beyond frustrated. I don't understand how it could take almost two months to fix such a huge issue. Within our marketing department, multiple people are accesing InDesign files that other people have created and it has become a huge hassle that one person here or one person there no longer has the "right" fonts when at one point they did...
