I have an application requirement to update many course titles within our desire2learn environment with no interaction from a user.  It needs to run every night to reflect the changes in the source system.  I would like to write batch java program to do this.  Is this possible using valence?  If not valence, what should I use?

thank you
Kevin

It is possible to find courses and update titles using Valence. We talk about Course Search in an API Recipe and in a there's a sample that puts these APIs into action. You can take a look at the orgunit and course API documentation for more detail. With Valence, you can extract the relevant data and post back your changes to the data. How you go about manipulating the data within your app is independent of Valence.

Thank you Sarah-Beth.  The question isnt related to to how to do the updates. The question is how to log in with no interaction from a user.  This is a nightly batch application.

When using Valence for an administrative task, you can gather the User tokens from a Service Account that has the necessary permissions to perform that task. For more info on how that process works, check out this question on StackOverflow: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21712396/consuming-the-valence-api-as-an-application

Thanks very much, Kevin! I really appreciate the feedback.

If there's any other API Recipes you'd find useful, please post your ideas in this forum!
