I received the following question and need a better solution than D2L currently offers.

“After a quiz is completed – is there a way to see how long does it take for students to complete the quiz?  Also – is there a way to see the IP address on a page for the list of students, not opening individual student submission. (we were able to do this on ANGEL, not d2l that I know of)”

Right now, instructors have to go through several clicks before they see the IP address a quiz was taken from.

Assessments>Quizzes> (Quiz pull-down) Grade > Attempt > Quizzes Event Log and finally they have to check a box to see the IP Address

Is there a way to collect this data and display the IP Address per student attempt all on one page?

At minimum, listing the Quiz title, student names, Quiz Completion times, and IP addresses for each would be great.

We are looking for an easier way to scan quiz submissions for indicators of academic misconduct.  In our instance, the IP addresses should all be for wired computers in a proctored environment.  Any other IPs would indicate cheating.  The single field for an IP pattern is not flexible enough for our needs, however, since we have multiple lab environments.

If there is a way to get the info we need within D2L, fantastic!  I'd love to hear about it.  If there isn't, I'd love any thoughts you'd like to offer on a strategy to develop a tool using Valence to generate the desired report.

Thanks for any thoughts on this!

Hi Nathan

If you haven't already done so, I'd recommend you make a similar post in the Brightspace Community forums. That's another route to reach an even larger group of clients with experience with how to accomplish what you've described. You could also mention this request in a post in the Product Ideas Exchange as an additional way to make your suggestion known. (If you don't have an account to access PIE, an Approved Support Contact in your institution should have one or can request one.)

We don't currently have any APIs targeting Quizzing functionality. This is a known gap in our development platform.

Like you, I'd be very interested to hear if anyone has tackled this problem in some other way.
