I would appreciate any help someone can give.

I going through the setup process on Ubuntu 15.10 and I get the following when issuing 'vagrant up' command:

The "metadata.json" file for the box 'base' was not found.

Boxes require this file in order for Vagrant to determine the

provider it was made for. If you made the box, please add a

"metadata.json" file to it. If someone else made the box, please

notify the box creator that the box is corrupt. Documentation for

Hello

Seems the box you are using is missing some required metadata.

Can you test with boxes that are known to work, ie:

hashicorp/precise64
unbuntu/* (precise64/trusty64)

or bento boxes.
