Johnson family of Virginia

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me with the Johnson family.  My ggrandfather emigrated from the US to New Zealand (and it is from him I am descended).  His grandfather was Jeremiah William Johnson born in Virginia in 1795 - we have had that confirmed from his Probate - he died in New York in 1871 with an estate of in excess of $50,000 (according to the documentation).  From this and other factors including the monuments erected in GreenWood Cemetery for the family, we take it they were a middle class family. We are trying to trace JWJ's famiily including his parents as we have no information on his birth other than the year, we have no death certificate (not sure how to get this due to the mire of complications with NY/NJ Archives).

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated or indeed any leads.  I am a member of several search engines - Ancestry, Family Search, Archives etc etc and none have borne fruit leading me to gradually drop them all as sources.
