Greetings!  New member, first query!

Ann / Hannah Parker was the fourth of 10 children of George Parker IV (1680-1734) and Elizabeth (MNU) (1681-1740).  She was born in 1721 in Accomac, Accomack Co., VA; and may have died in 1785 in Pittsylvania, Halifax Co., VA.

William Toler was born in 1721 in Wayne Co., NC.  He served in the Revolutionary War; and died in Wayne Co., NC on 21 Oct 1785.  Toler married an “Ann,” likely by 1740, in Wayne Co., NC.  Is Toler’s spouse this Ann / Hannah Parker, above?

Toler’s Will declares an “Ann” as his spouse, but does not mention her maiden name.  The couple is similarly described in Revolutionary War records by Maddox, and in land records by Parks.  Toler appears by himself in the 1790 U.S. Census, and in various abstracts of deeds, tax lists, court records, etc. by Hofmann, Watson, Campbell, Holcomb, Byrd and Ham.  He also appears by himself in Revolutionary War records by Bockstrock and Brumbaugh.

Ann / Hannah Parker appears by herself in “Accomack County, Virginia Marriage References and Family Relationships, 1620-1800,” by Anna M. Watring; and in “Adventurers of Purse and Person, Virginia, 1607-1624/5, Volume Three,” by John Frederick Dorman.  She is the great-granddaughter of Maj. George Parker II (1627-1674), who immigrated to Accomack County, VA in 1649.

I’d be grateful for any confirmation of this Toler-Parker marriage, or advice for further research.  Thanks!

James,

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to confirm his wife Ann as Ann Parker either. Just haven't found any evidence to construct a plausible scenario putting the two together. Also, I'm looking for evidence that William descended from Henry Toler of Accomack as many indicate and I haven't seen evidence of William being born in Wayne, Co in 1820. In fact, that seems very unlikely as Europeans were only beginning to establish a foothold at New Bern, NC on the mouth of the Neuse river in the 1710-1720s. The population of that town didn't start to grow until after they had defeated the Tuscarora and Coree Indians by 1718. Before 1730, the only inhabitants of the areas that were to become Wayne and Johnston counties were the Tuscarora and Saponi Indians. I did find that the Wayne Co. Toler's in the 19th century indicate said they were from Ireland. So either they came direct or, what seems likely, before moving to Wayne, they were in Southeastern Virginia, Northern coastal N.C. or possibly from an English held Caribbean Island. I do find evidence from other Early Wayne settlers having come from Chowan and Edgecombe counties.
