Subject: Mentally Ill Offender Treatment and Crime Reduction Act National Letter
We appreciate your interest and support of the Mentally Ill Offender Treatment and Crime Reduction Act (MIOTCRA). Congress has begun work on 2012 appropriations bills and we need your help to protect and strengthen the MIOTCRA program.
The Justice Center, in coordination with organizations that work to improve the lives of people with mental illnesses involved in the criminal justice system, is leading the effort to secure funding for the Mentally Ill Offender Treatment and Crime Reduction Act (MIOTCRA) for fiscal year 2012, which begins October 1, 2011. Due to the current budget situation, the new Congress is planning heavy cuts to domestic spending. To show lawmakers how important this program is, your organization is invited to sign the attached national letter asking Congress to fund the Mentally Ill Offender Treatment and Crime Reduction Act. We don’t need your signature, but would like to be able to add your organization to the list of supporters for this funding.
If interested, please email me directly at jne...@csg.org. A list of the supporting organizations will be collected for the letter until April 29, 2011.
If appropriate, please share this opportunity with members of your professional network and partners.
