Wanted to make you aware of a free training opportunity coming up on June 6th!
The Greater Augusta Coalition Against Adult Abuse, of which Blue Ridge CIT is a part, is offering a 1 day seminar on “Successful Investigation and Prosecution of Elder Abuse”. It will be on June 6th and is open to prosecutors and law enforcement officers State-wide!
As of last count the room is only half filled and though we have a good number of prosecutors, law enforcement is severely under-represented.
6 hours of CLE and DCJS PIC have been APPROVED, even though the poster says they are pending.
Speakers include Paul Greenwood, a Deputy DA from southern California who is a nationally recognized expert in the field of elder abuse prosecution and Sharron Burnham, Principal Assistant US Attorney for the Western District of VA. Lunch is included!
Funded by grants from several places including the Administration on Aging, Augusta Health Foundation, Blue Ridge Legal Services, Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge, Home Instead Senior Care, and the VA Coalition for the Prevention of Elder Abuse.

Subject: Reminder June 6 FREE Elder Abuse Training
Just a reminder that the "Successful Investigation and Prosecution of Elder Abuse Training" will be on Monday, June 6, 2011 from 8:30 AM to 4 PM at the Plecker Work Force Center at Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave, VA. There is no Charge for the Event and lunch is provided. Both CLE and DCJS Credits have been requested and we feel certain they will be approved.
The Training is open to Coalition Members, Law Enforcement and Prosecutors. Everyone attending must register! There has been some confusion about whether or not there will be enough room for Coalition Members; thus, some members have not registered to save room for our target audience. I would like to suggest that if you have not registered for this reason, that you go ahead and register and write in the Comments section that you would be willing to give up your seat if needed. If you will not be attending the training it would be extremely helpful for you to let me know. And some of you have already done that, which I greatly appreciate.
One last request - please contact Law Enforcement Officers and Commonwealth Attorney's Offices to encourage them to come. Keep in mind that in VA, both Commonwealth Attorneys and Sheriff's are elected Officials. Contacting them as a Constitiuent and asking them to attend is certainly appropriate and hopefully would get a positive result.
