Program description: This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV and other diseases. This vacancy is located in the IEIP project.

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Perform routine administrative and secretarial functions, including typing, copying, faxing, filing and preparation of learning resources, taking and distributing messages and meeting minutes, etc.
  • Arrange for the use of facilities like meeting venues, the resource centre and accommodation for training sessions and assist with training sessions where appropriate and necessary.
  • Obtain quotes and place requisitions for items to be purchased for the program.
  • Administer petty cash and documentation.
  • Assist with travel arrangements.
  • Liaise with KEMRI/CDC in Kisian and field offices in Nairobi for administration issues, supplies, and petty cash.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or requested.

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school
  • A Diploma in Business Management, Human Resource or equivalent
  • Three years of progressively responsible work experience in administrative and office procedures is required.

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Excel, Access or other database application, and internet research.
  • Secretarial studies will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of graphic and publication software used to create flyers, certificates and other types of publicity.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITY:
  • Excellent social, communication and listening skills.
  • Meticulous and detail oriented
  • Proficiency in Microsoft word, excel, and Microsoft Outlook. 

 

Terms of Employment: A six (6) 1 year Renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months.
Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.
