חברים יקרים,

משתף אתכם במכתב שהולך לצאת להורי חניכי מחנה ביחד בשעה הקרובה. אנו כותבים כדי לשתף בפרטי טרגדיה קשה שקרתה במחנה NJY, המחנה המארח אותנו במחנה ביחד ובמחנה אביב של החוף המזרחי. לפני יומיים נפטר שם חניך בן 11 באופן פתאומי. אירוע כזה גורם מן הסתם ללחץ בקרב ההורים וייתכן וגם אתם תקבלו פנייות ושאלות בנושא. מבקש להפנות את ההורים המודאגים לעומרי ולעדכן אותנו. הדבר הכי גרוע זה ספקולציות שהופכות לשמועות לא נכונות וגורמות לפאניקה.

מחנה NJY הוא שותף חשוב של הצופים ביבשת, יש בו מעל ל2,000 חניכים בכל סיישן וזו טרגדיה נוראה. מדריכים כרגע במחנה 6 שליחי קיץ של הצופים ואנו בקשר עם הנהלת המחנה ואיתם, כדילהתעדכן, וכמובן מחזקים אותם בהתמודדות הקשה הזו.

אנו מקווים ששלומכם טוב, ומצפים לפגוש בקרוב את כל ילדי מחנה ביחד

אנחנו כותבים היום כדי לעדכן אתכם על מותו הטראגי והפתאומי מאוד של אחד מחניכי מחנה NJY Camps, המחנה המארח את מחנה ביחד.

על אף שלא מדובר בחניך הקשור למחנה ביחד, רצינו לעדכן ולהבהיר את הפרטים. כיוון שהסיבה למחלתו הפתאומית אינה ידועה, היא עוררה ספקולציות - לרוב לא נכונות - בקהילה, ובמיוחד בתקשורת.

דניאל באר, בן 11, פיתח תסמינים של בעיה במערכת העיכול (gastrointestinal) שהחריפה במהירות במהלך הלילה, הוא טופל במרפאת המחנה ובהמשך פונה לטיפול נמרץ בבי"ח. דניאל נפטר בבוקר יום שני בבית החולים בון סקורס, ניו ג'רזי.

ראשית, גורמים מקצועיים קבעו כי אין ילדים אחרים בסכנה כלשהי, גם אלה הנמצאים במחנה עכשיו, וגם הילדים העתידים להגיע. NJY עובדים צמוד עם Pennsylvania Department Health שקבעו שהטרגדיה הזאת היתה מקרה נקודתי בודד. אין חשש למגיפה או זיהום במחנה.

כחלק מאמצעי הזהירות שננקטו פונו שלושה חניכים אחרים עם תסמינים דומים אך מתונים, הם נבדקו בחדר המיון באותו יום ושוחררו לאחר פרק זמן קצר, לא אושפזו.

ישנו מומחה למחלות זיהומיות במחנה מאז יום שני, העובד עם משרד הבריאות ומשרד החקלאות (תברואה) שבדק את המטבחים של NJY, ולא נמצא קשר בין המטבחים למקרה המדובר. מומחים רבים היו במחנה וקבעו שאין אף אחד אחר בסכנה.

Dear Parents,

We hope this email finds you and your family well and we look forward to welcoming all Machane B'Yachad campers.

We’re writing you today to update you on the very tragic and sudden passing of one of NJY campers. The camper was not a participant of Macahne B'Yachad. Unfortunately, because the cause of his sudden illness is not known, it has caused tremendous – and often untrue – speculation in the community and especially in the media.

Daniel Beer, 11, a camper in NJY camp had gastrointestinal symptoms overnight, was treated in the camp's infirmary and was taken to the hospital Monday morning when the symptoms worsened suddenly. He passed away that morning at Bon Secours Community Hospital.

First, please be assured that no other children, either those who are in camp now or who will be attending camp, are in danger. We have worked closely with the Pennsylvania Department Health, and they have determined that this tragedy was an isolated incident. There is no concern of any epidemic or outbreak at camp. Among the precautions the camp have taken was having three other campers with mild gastrointestinal symptoms seen at the emergency room the same day and released after a short period of time.

The camp had an infection control specialist at camp since Monday, working with the Department of Health and the Department of Agriculture that inspects the kitchens, and no link to this illness has been found. Many experts we have had at camp have assured us no one else is in danger.

Friends Of Israel Scouts and NJY Camp are close partners, and we send our deepest condolences to the family and to the camp's staff during this difficult time.
