Hi all, I know this was posted on the group email list earlier, but I just received the obituary information thanks to Nancy Rinker.

Preston Lynn Mauck Obituary

Preston Lynn Mauck, age 85, of Charlottesville, Va., died on November 20, 2025 at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care in Danville, Va.

Born August 3, 1940 in Rileyville, Va., he was the son of Edgar Lynn Mauck and Emma Daisy Painter Mauck. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Wanda Hope Barrett (Lewis) and Patricia Ann Pflugshaupt (Leo); and his loving wife, Cleo Nadine Johnson Mauck.

Preston was a graduate of the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind in Staunton, Va. Upon his graduation he ran a country store in Page County, Va., an accomplishment of which he was very proud. After moving to Charlottesville, Va. in 1980, Preston worked for the Virginia Industries for the Blind until his retirement.

Preston loved his church (Calvary Baptist Church) in Charlottesville, baseball (his favorite team was the Dodgers), country music, audiobooks, keeping up with the news, being outside enjoying the sunshine, and eating great food (a good steak and vanilla shake were his favorites).

Preston lived a life of integrity, courage, and kindness. He also had a great sense of humor. He believed in living life as it comes, taking advantage of all opportunities that come your way, and being a nice person.

Preston is survived by family and friends who loved and admired him greatly. Very special thanks are given to Matt and Rose Miller, Preston’s guardian angels on this earth. Their love and compassion enabled Preston to live the independent lifestyle he loved so much. Preston was also blessed to have in his life for over forty years, his best friend, Kathy Jane Owen, of Charlottesville. They rarely went a day without speaking to one another.

Special thanks are given to Stacy Trent (charge nurse northeast) and Nancy Wann (Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care in Danville), Carole Maxwell, Tori Nordin,  and his special care giver, Juanita Davis (Brookdale Assisted Living in Danville).

A memorial service and celebration of Preston’s life will be held January 10, 11:00 am at Calvary Baptist Church, 1675 Avon Street Extended, Charlottesville, Virginia. Pastor Roi Savailinaea will be officiating.

Interment of Preston’s ashes will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1675 Avon Street Extended, Charlottesville, Virginia 22902, or to the Salvation Army.
